The Weidner Cares team had the honor of volunteering for a few great organizations in Texas at the Permian Basin Mission Center in Odessa, and at the Salvation Army in Abilene.
Permian Basin Mission Center
At the Permian Basin Mission Center (PBMC) in Odessa, Weidner stepped in shortly after they had lost their funding and faced the challenge of laying off half their staff. This left only 5 people, including the new CEO, Hector, to serve nearly 200 people every day.
With a group of just under 100 volunteers, the Weidner Cares team worked in the sub-freezing temperatures to get their facility in optimum shape. Hundreds of pounds of donations were sorted and organized. The two facility bathrooms received two new floor installations, and they were cleaned and repainted. To free up space in the waiting room, the Weidner Cares team built a framed window between the lobby and kitchen, where the secretary could easily meet with clients.
Perhaps the largest undertaking at the PBMC facility was to repair damage from huge floods that had ruined flooring, donations, and furniture. The team of volunteers sourced the cause of the leaks and removed and repaired hundreds of feet of siding and repainted the flooring throughout the facility. The appreciation and relief expressed by the PBMC was an inspiration to all, and the Weidner team was honored to be of service.
In Abilene, the Weidner Cares team donated their time and talents to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is a faith-based organization that offers humanitarian services to those in need throughout the world, including shelter and housing, in-patient drug and alcohol rehabilitations, and serving meals to those in need.
After overcoming some harsh weather conditions, The Weidner Cares team spent the day painting, organizing, and repairing several rooms throughout the Abilene facility. They also sorted and organized a storage room of emergency supplies, donations and decorations. One of the larger projects involved repainting and repairing the onsite chapel, which had been seriously damaged by flooding. After the repairs, the facility had a much brighter and welcoming presence and everyone was pleased with the results.
The Weidner Cares team thoroughly enjoyed being of service to the PBMC and the Salvation Army. Investing in the community and sharing time, talents, and good will is not only incredibly rewarding – it’s great fun. Thank you to all the volunteers and everyone at both organizations for making a difference to so many people.

Spring has sprung in Skagit Valley at the 34th Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The festival is one of Washington’s most celebrated events and was included in National Geographic’s “Best Spring Trips” list.
Skagit Valley is located in Western Washington State, about 75 miles north of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, near Mount Vernon. This April, thousands of visitors will head to the festival to feast their eyes on millions of bulbs in bloom.
Agriculture is Skagit County’s number one industry. “More tulip, iris, and daffodil bulbs are produced here than in any other county in the U.S., and local farmers produce about $261 million worth of 90 different crops, livestock, and dairy products on 93,000 acres of land.”
You can enjoy Mother Nature’s spectacular display the entire month of April by driving, walking, or biking to the tulip fields. Guided tours are also available for a nominal fee. While blooming dates are not specified, the website does offer a bloom calendar, but as with all things in nature…show times are really up to her.
Events surrounding the festival include a wine festival, art festival, a children’s art table and a parade. There are also display gardens at Tulip Town and RoozenGaarde/Washington Bulb Company.
At Tulip Town, you can enjoy trolley rides, face painting and flying kites. Cut or potted tulips, gifts, and tulip-themed art are also available for purchase.
Whether you’re looking for an event the whole family can enjoy, or you’re seeking a great backdrop for a selfie, Skagit Valley Tulip Festival has a little something for everyone.
On February 22, 2017, The Washington Multi Family Housing Association (WMFHA) held their second annual Emerald Awards, honoring top performers in Property Management in Eastern Washington. We are proud to announce that Jessica Fowler received the prestigious and well-deserved “Community Manager of the Year” award in the 150-plus apartment homes category.
Nearly 300 attendees gathered at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane, WA to honor their colleagues and peers. The festivities began with a reception, followed by a gourmet lunch and the awards program- all in the spirit of recognizing superior performance.
The role of Community Manager is a challenging and demanding role that requires intuitive multi-tasking, combined with excellent time management and a deep appreciation for our residents. At Weidner, we know our success depends on our best people, delivering their very best to our residents, and we couldn’t be more pleased to congratulate Jessica on her award.
Jessica Fowler started with Weidner Apartment Homes on Sept 2, 2012 in the Anchorage, Alaska region. Jessica began her career in property management as a multi-site Leasing Consultant at College View Apartment Homes (98 units) and Rancho Tudor Apartment Homes (60 units). Jessica loves interacting with residents and helping others and realized early that this was the industry for her. Jessica’s hard work paid off when she seized the opportunity to join the Weidner Apartment Homes Manager in Training program. As part of the Manager in Training program Jessica worked with an experienced multi-site manager & was directly responsible for Deer Park Apartment Homes (120 units) and Quiet Creek Apartment Homes (36 units). Based on her stellar performance in Weidner’s Manager in Training program, Jessica quickly graduated & was promoted to Community Director of Montclair Apartment Homes (48 units) and Driftwood Apartment Homes (40 units). In 2014 Weidner purchased Russian Jack Apartment Homes (136 units) and Jessica was selected to welcome the residents to the Weidner family. After successfully integrating Russian Jack Apartments into the Weidner management philosophy, Jessica relocated to Wenatchee, Washington where she took the reigns of Riverside 9 Apartment Homes. Riverside 9 gave Jessica the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a new development & lease-up community. As a bonus, Jessica fell in love with the nearby mountains, rolling hills, and picturesque landscapes of Wenatchee and the Eastern Washington region. In her free time, you’ll find Jessica exploring & hiking with her pup Kenai or snowboarding at one of the nearby resorts. Jessica is an asset to the Weidner team and consistently goes above and beyond for her residents & teammates.
