All too often, when people think about moving, two things come to mind, stress and money. However, there are many exciting aspects of moving that can make the entire experience more fun. While there are parts of moving that can be stressful, it’s totally ok to feel more than one emotion at a time; moving can be both scary and exciting, and that doesn’t devalue one or the other. It’s up to you to choose how you feel about the process, and your mindset can be rewritten with a few simple tips and tricks.
Create Games and Competitions
While packing up boxes, it’s easy to get bored with the monotony; instead, turn it into a game for the whole family! See who can box up an area first and reward them with their own pizza on moving day. You can also put reward tokens in select boxes and when you go to unpack them, whoever comes across the token wins the prize. These fun games may seem a little childish, but some fun-loving ideas can really lift everyone’s spirits on a stressful moving day.
Have the Kids Decorate the Boxes
Are the kids too young to help pack the boxes or perhaps not very careful with the fragile pieces? Put them to work with box decorating! Give them some markers, sharpies, and even a labeler, and let them get creative. This is a great way to make them feel like they are helping while also giving you something to smile about as you transport the boxes. Afterward, you can cut out some of the designs and make a scrapbook of your moving day.
Dress Up on Moving Day
Who doesn’t love matching shirts? Get some personalized shirts printed for your big day and have everyone in your moving crew wear them. This added touch of whimsy will help things seem less serious and even provide souvenirs once the deed is done. The kids will love having their own shirts and can put a positive spin on something that might be stressful for them if they are switching schools.
