Apartment Living 101 – Kool-Aid & Nail Polish Stains – Gone!

Apartment Living 101

It’s that time again! Time for our newest Apartment Living 101 post! Over the past few weeks we have been helping you clean your apartment and remove all kinds of carpet stains. Those hard to get out wine and coffee stains are no problem for our DIY stain removers. These are so simple and can really help the carpet in your apartment look like new!

We will start with how to remove every kid’s favorite drink (okay and some adults) with just a few items.

Kool-Aid Stain Clean-up

Oh yea? More like oh no!

If you’re watching this video, you probably just spilled your Kool-Aid like I just did.

Here’s a quick list of the things you’ll need:

  • White towels
  • Warm and cold water
  • Dish soap

Alright, let’s get to it!

Blot as much of the Kool-Aid as possible with a towel. Be sure to blot and not scrub. Also, be sure to use a clean side of the towel so you don’t spread the stain.

Next, grab a cup of warm water, and mix in ½ teaspoon of dish soap.

Starting from the outside and working your way in, apply the mixture to the stain. Continue to blot dry with the towel. Repeat until the stain is gone.

Once the stain is gone, rinse with cold water and blot the area dry.

Next up – Remove That Nail Polish Stain Easy

You probably just spilled some nail polish like I just did, right?

Okay, maybe not exactly like I did.

Here’s a quick list of the things you’ll need to get that removed:

  • Hair spray (and this can be the cheap kind)
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Toothbrush
  • Cold water

Let’s get to it!

Spray about 15-20 pumps of hair spray over the stain. Then, about 3-5 splashes of rubbing alcohol.

Grab your toothbrush and scrub the stain for about a minute. While scrubbing, keep pouring some cold water onto the stain.

Keep repeating until the stain is removed.

If you’re having the nail polish be a bit stubborn, pour a bit of non-acetone nail polish remover and continue to scrub with the toothbrush.

Once the stain is all gone, dab the are with clean, white towel, then vacuum to remove the excess dirt.
