“Dean [Weidner] told me that Colorado Springs has a place in his heart, and once you come here you’ll want to come back,” said Vice President of Public Relations, Greg Cerbana. “We’ve chosen to have our Weidner brand represented here and merged with the Switchbacks, thanks to the dramatic growth of soccer and the Switchbacks being a family organization.”
Partnering now & for the future!
Our partnership with the Switchbacks began in 2016, during their third season as an official USL team. As our presence in Colorado Springs continues to grow with the openings of Elements at Briargate Apartment Homes and La Bella Vita Apartment Homes, it only made sense to strengthen our ties with this new Colorado Springs hallmark.
“We are very pleased and honored the whole Weidner Apartment Homes team, has chosen the Colorado Springs Switchbacks to tell the story of Weidner Apartment Homes,” said Switchbacks President Nick Ragain. He then went on to proclaim, “the Switchbacks Stadium would now be known as Weidner Field for the upcoming season and near future.”
Weidner Field was originally built in 1985 as a joint effort between the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the City of Colorado Springs. The Switchbacks are now in year three of their ten-year lease on the site.
“Our involvement with the Switchbacks has been important on many levels.” said Weidner’s Regional Vice President Robert Carr, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs. “Our sponsorship has provided the opportunity to increase our brand awareness in the Colorado Springs market in a fun and entertaining medium. Our partnership with the Switchbacks has given us a new way to interact with the larger Colorado Springs community in a very positive way.”
The Switchbacks will kick off their 2017 USL campaign at the Tulsa Roughnecks on March 25th before returning to Weidner Field for their home opener on April 1st against Oklahoma City Energy FC.
