New Year's Eve means something different for everyone. The last day of the year can be a time of quiet reflection, or a chance to get that one last party in before the official reboot.

Whether you prefer a low-key celebration or crowds of cheering, smiling strangers, here's a selection of events to help ring in the New Year, Seattle style:

The Space Needle

For the quintessential Seattle New Year's Eve, you can join 20,000 spectators at the base of the Space Needle for the fireworks show. The event is free. However, there are also ticketed parties in and around the Space Needle like the annual Indulgence New Year's Bash.

New Year's Resolution

Why sit home alone making your New Year's resolution list, when you can join thousands of your closest friends at the Resolution 2017 party at Wamu Theater? There's always tomorrow for making lists and starting diets.

New Year at Chihuly Gardens and Glass

Immerse yourself in the fireworks show and watch them through the glass at Chihuly Garden and Glass. Enjoy the exhibit, dining and dancing, along with a champagne toast at midnight.

Spectra 2017 NYE Under the Arches

Head over to the Pacific Science Center for a full menu of entertainment and an unobstructed view of the fireworks show from the courtyard. It includes live science demonstrations and wanderings through the exhibit halls, planetarium and Laser Dome.

Seattle Children's Museum

Kids want to party too at the Seattle Children's Museum! As midnight arrives in countries around the world, kids can raise a glass of apple juice and indulge in some crafts that represent the traditions of each country. Culture and apple juice go together well.

First Night

This family-friendly event in Tacoma is in its 20th year and features both day and evening events that draw up to 20,000 attendees. With 10 venues entertaining through fire, ice, music and dance, it's unlikely anyone in the family will get bored.

Swinging Pre-Funk Party

Get a head start on the festivities on December 30th, and head over to the Century Ballroom for an elegant night of Swing dancing. An optional 5-course dinner is available and 30's and 40's attire is encouraged, but isn't a deal-breaker. Dance lessons will commence after dinner and newcomers are welcome!

Slammin' Jammin'

Sometimes "new" isn't all it's cracked up to be. If that's your story, jam to some old-school R&B at the Slammin' Jammin' NYE party at the Doubletree Suites. Includes dinner, dancing and a champagne toast at midnight.

Party Cruise

Who says you have to be land-locked to ring in the New Year? Waterways Cruise will help you bid adieu to 2016 while cruising around Lake Union and Lake Washington. The 3-hour cruise includes party favors, a live DJ, dancing, dining, champagne toast at midnight, and a great view of the fireworks.

Bollywood Masquerade Party

If dancing to the Bollywood vibe has been on your 2016 bucket list, now's the time to fulfill that dream. The Jai Ho New Year's Eve bash is in its fifth year and features a masquerade-themed dance party with DJ Prashant spinning high-energy house music. It includes a free mask, a bhangra dance lesson and for a donation, a henna tattoo.

End of the Year Run

Burn some holiday calories and challenge yourself to an end-of-the-year walk/run at Green Lake Park on December 31, starting at 8am. What? The party is over? Not necessarily. Start 2017 alert, refreshed and soaking wet at the Polar Bear Plunge at Puget Sound. Plunge into the cool waters, and then warm yourself up with some hot beverages at the warming tents. Rain or shine, of course.

Or, join many others around the world, and snuggle up on your couch in your pajamas, consuming large amounts of coffee, while contemplating new goals like taking down the holiday decorations.

However you decide to celebrate, the Weidner family wishes you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017.
