With so much of our lives based around technology, it’s safe to say that we spend a good majority of our days looking at some type of screen. Whether it be your computer, phone, TV, iPad, or even a screen in your car, technology is everywhere, and sometimes your eyes need a break. When we hear the words “screen time,” we often think about kids, but it’s important to set aside our own screen time as adults too. Keep reading for some helpful tips and tricks.

Don’t Use Technology During Breaks

While at work, most employees utilize their lunch break to scroll through social media or watch videos; however, this doesn’t give your mind or your eyes any type of break. Instead, get up and move, and don’t use your phone the entire time. We recommend going on a walk, reading a book, or simply chatting with coworkers. Your body will have recovered enough to finish the day strong by the time your break is over.

Keep Screens Out of the Bedroom

Your bedroom is for peace and relaxation, and nothing ruins that quite like blue light. Studies show that watching TV or scrolling through your phone before bed can cause trouble with sleeping. Once you enter your bedroom, make it a screen-free zone, including phones and televisions. This is a great way to allow your mind to wander and feel peaceful before closing your eyes.

Monitor Your Screen Time

Since we use technology so much, we tend to forget how often we stare at screens. Set up a program on your computer and phone to monitor your screen time, and you will be surprised to see how much time you are spending on technology. Just like most problems in life, once you are aware of it, you can actively make changes for the better and try to lower your daily screen time. This is also a great way to positively influence your kids, who will see you utilizing your phone less and will do the same.

Now that you know how to minimize your screen time, start making changes to your routine today! We are confident you will feel happier and healthier as a result in no time.
