Allergies are never fun to deal with, especially during the summer when you want to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. While over-the-counter medications work wonders on those sniffly noses, there are plenty of ways to help control allergies at home. Keep reading for some helpful tips and tricks to implement this season.

Vacuum Regularly

Allergens live all around us, and unfortunately, they can be hard to spot. One way to stop them at the source is to vacuum your home regularly. Even if you have hardwood floors, we recommend vacuuming them to ensure that you pick up all the small particles that a broom might just move around.

Wash Up Every Time You Walk Through The Door

After being outside all day, it’s only normal to bring some allergens home with you accidentally. Take your shoes off before you step through the door and place them in a closet or cupboard instead of tracking them through your apartment. Be sure to wash your hands and face as soon as you get home. If your allergies are a little more severe than most, we also recommend changing your clothes when you get home and keeping outside and indoor clothing separate.

Find Out What You Are Allergic To

If you suffer from allergies, you might feel like you are allergic to the entire world, but there might just be a few things that are significantly impacting you. Once you know what you are allergic to, it’s easier to avoid those things and quickly treat yourself once exposed. Schedule an appointment with your doctor for testing, or consider ordering an at-home test that can provide you with the same results.

Be Proactive Rather Than Reactive

If you only take allergy medicine once you start feeling symptoms, you are being reactive. We recommend being proactive instead and getting ahead of a bad allergy day. Take your over-the-counter medication when you wake up in the morning to prepare for an allergy-free day. By being proactive with your prescription and cleaning your home, you can endure fewer bad days this season and get ahead of the sneezes.

If you are already worried about summer allergies, you’re not alone; but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer in silence. Using the tips above, you can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine without worrying about the sniffly consequences. Do you have any other advice for your neighbors?
