With more than 66% of American households containing at least one pet, one of the most frequent questions people ask themselves when relocating is “Can I bring my pet with me?”
Searching for a pet-friendly apartment that satisfies both your needs and your furry friends’ requirements can be challenging. In this guide, we will dive into what to look for in a pet-friendly apartment and how Blue & Lime in South Minneapolis truly embodies what it means to be a pet-friendly apartment community.
What to Look for in a Pet-Friendly Apartment
Pet Policies and Fees
-
Are there breed or size restrictions? Some apartments may have restrictions on certain breeds or pet sizes. Common apartment breed restrictions include Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German Shepards, Huskies, Akitas, and Wolf-Hybrids.
-
What are the pet fees? These may encompass a one-time pet deposit, monthly pet rent, and additional charges. Be sure to budget accordingly to cover these expenses.
-
Is there a limit to how many pets you can have? Many apartment complexes permit only a specific number of pets per household, so be sure to verify that all your furry friends are welcome in your new home.
-
Are there any additional requirements? Some locations may require proof of vaccinations or pet insurance, so it's a good idea to have all your pet's documents organized and ready, just in case!
Amenities for Pets
-
On-site dog parks or pet play areas where your pet can exercise and socialize with other pets.
-
On-site pet washing stations to make bath time convenient and mess-free.
-
Nearby parks or walking trails for daily walks and outdoor adventures.

-
Proximity to veterinary clinics and pet stores for easy access to pet care and supplies.

A welcoming community where other residents are friendly to animals and understanding of pet-related situations, like occasional barking.
-
Safety and cleanliness of the neighborhood, ensuring a healthy environment for your pet.
Why Choose Blue & Lime?
Pet-Friendly Features

Weidner Cares arrives in Minnesota to partner with Tubman!
On Tuesday, September 9th, associates across our Minnesota region dedicated a day to volunteering at Tubman as part of our annual Weidner Cares program. Weidner Cares is a company-wide philanthropic initiative we host in each region. During this event, our teams close their doors for an entire workday to contribute their time, resources, and expertise to support a local non-profit organization in need.
When our volunteers walked into Tubman’s facility, they were greeted by a long to-do list and well-worn spaces ready for new life. By the end of the day, those same spaces were transformed into a welcoming home for those who need it most.
In Harriet’s Closet, our team installed new shelving that turned a cluttered storage space into a tidy, functional area where families can access what they need. Garages that once housed hazardous materials and disorganized tools were converted into safe and efficient storage zones. Volunteers replaced air filters across five floors of shelter bedrooms, a simple yet significant detail that will positively impact the hundreds of residents who pass through each year.
Meanwhile, the art and childcare rooms buzzed with laughter and energy as they received fresh coats of paint and were reorganized to inspire creativity and play. Outside, teams landscaped, cleaned, and revitalized the grounds, ensuring that Tubman’s exterior matched the warmth of its mission.
This is what Weidner Cares looks like in Minnesota: sleeves rolled up, smiles shining, and a strong commitment to ensuring that the organizations caring for our neighbors receive the support they deserve.
