The North Carolina and South Carolina teams spent their 2026 Weidner Cares community service day volunteering at Sterling Elementary School in Pineville, NC.

Weidner Cares is our annual company-wide philanthropic program, hosted in each region, where we close our doors for an entire workday to give back to the communities in which we live and work. With our team’s unique tools, talents, and skills, we can make entire transformations for nonprofit or community-oriented spaces in just one day!

Our mission at Sterling Elementary was to help prepare the campus for another successful school year, and from the moment volunteers arrived, they got to work creating spaces where students and teachers would feel welcomed, supported, and inspired.

Throughout the day, teams worked across the campus, completing improvements that touched nearly every part of the school. Volunteers refreshed the teachers' lounge with new paint and updates, restored the outdoor classroom and community garden, repaired benches and planter boxes, completed landscaping enhancements, cleaned outdoor gathering spaces, and enhanced playground areas used daily by students.

Not every contribution involved paint or power tools. Several volunteers spent time creating colorful, handwritten encouragement cards, leaving uplifting messages for students as they begin the new school year. These small gestures remind students that an entire community is cheering them on.

The day showcased what Weidner Cares is all about: coming together, sharing our talents, and investing in the communities where we live and work.

Thank you to every associate who volunteered their time, energy, and heart to help make Sterling Elementary School an even better place for students, teachers, and families.

The exterior building of Palmetto Place Apartments in Fort Mill, SC.Fort Mill, SC (December 9, 2025) – Weidner Apartment Homes, the 12th-largest owner of multifamily housing in the U.S., has acquired Palmetto Place Apartments in Fort Mill, SC, one of the fastest-growing submarkets in the Charlotte metropolitan area. This acquisition marks Weidner’s first community in South Carolina and brings the company’s Charlotte MSA portfolio to 1,068 apartment homes.

Built in 1996 on 12.55 acres, Palmetto Place is a 184-unit garden-style community with various one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes totaling 177,508 square feet of net rentable area. The community features three finish levels across the unit mix, offering a compelling value-add while still catering to a mix of renters. Additionally, in recent years, the community’s shared spaces, amenities, and landscaping have undergone capital improvements.

Residents benefit from well-appointed in-home features, including fireplaces, stainless steel appliances, wood-style plank flooring, walk-in closets, full-size in-unit laundry, and private patios or balconies. Community amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, pool with sundeck, bark park, playground, gazebo with grilling stations, and the updated sports court. The property also provides 346 surface parking spaces.

Fort Mill has emerged as one of the most desirable residential areas in the Carolinas, driven by sustained in-migration, a robust employment base, and nationally recognized schools. Located just 20 minutes south of Charlotte’s central business district, the community benefits from direct access to major employment centers while offering South Carolina’s lower cost of living and favorable tax environment. Corporate growth from employers such as Lash Group, LPL Financial, Continental Tire, Schaeffler, and Silfab Solar has reinforced the area’s strong economic position.

Weidner Apartment Homes is the sole owner and manager of Palmetto Place Apartments and looks forward to continuing its investment in the greater Charlotte area while supporting residents within the community.
