On Thursday, August 28, our associates in Washington dedicated their workday to volunteering at the Ballard Boys & Girls Club in Seattle as part of our annual Weidner Cares program. Weidner Cares is a company-wide philanthropic initiative we host in each region where our teams close their doors for an entire workday and donate their time, resources, and expertise to a local non-profit in need.

The Ballard Club stands as a vital resource in Seattle, providing a safe and encouraging space for youth to learn, develop, and acquire essential skills through engaging activities and educational programs. To support this mission, our team eagerly tackled a variety of projects, ranging from updating the classrooms to enhancing the outdoor areas. Each volunteer brought distinct skills and a positive attitude, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and a focus on contributing to the wellness of the greater Seattle community.

Inside the facility, volunteers painted and repaired walls, installed new lighting and ceiling tiles, refreshed classrooms, and added thoughtful details such as blinds, outlet covers, and shelving. The gym, art room, and game room were rejuvenated with fresh paint, repairs, and thorough cleaning.

Outside, teams pressure-washed and painted the building's exterior, repaired fences, trimmed trees and hedges, removed invasive blackberry bushes, and revitalized the rain garden. The field and batting cage were enhanced with new turf, netting, gravel, and repaired dugouts. Finally, the playground received fresh wood chips, borders, and new turf to ensure children can play safely.

By the end of the day, the entire area had undergone a dramatic transformation, ready to welcome the next generation of enthusiastic learners!

It was a day of teamwork, dedication, and pride. Together, the Washington team left the Ballard Boys & Girls Club a brighter, safer place that will continue to serve the community’s needs.

Lonna started with Weidner in 2007 and has 38 years of experience in operations within the real estate industry. During her 18-year tenure, she has held several leadership roles, including Regional Director, Regional Vice President, Vice President of Operations, and, most recently, Executive Vice President, a position she has held since November 2023. With her outstanding operational expertise, Lonna has been instrumental in overseeing 83 ventures for Weidner, encompassing a range of projects, including lease-ups, acquisitions, renovations, and new developments.

A true leader in the multifamily space, Lonna is celebrated for her passion for people development and building high-performing teams. She played a pivotal role in helping Weidner achieve a spot on the NMHC Top 50 Owners List in 2013 and reach its current 12th position, illustrating her commitment to continuous improvement and pushing boundaries.
