Here at Weidner, we want our apartments to feel like home. Our goal is to have our communities filled with love, laughter, and friendship that lasts a lifetime. Lucky for you, your neighbors are just a few steps away from being your friends. Getting to know your neighbors is a great way to develop a happy home; plus, you might find that you have plenty of things in common. Keep reading to discover some ways to get to know your neighbors.
Leave a Note
Whether you are just moving in or are welcoming your new neighbors, leaving a note is a small and subtle way to start developing a relationship. Something as simple as “Welcome to the community” can go a long way in making both parties feel comfortable. If you are a baker, consider dropping off some muffins for a little added taste of friendship. You can also add a friendly “Swing by some time to say hi” to the end of the note to put the ball in their court.
Use The Amenities
Using the amenities is a great way to meet other people in the community. If you develop a gym schedule, you will surely come across the same people simultaneously, and a friendly smile will quickly turn into chit-chat and conversation. You can even ask your neighbor if they want to join you for a BBQ or a swim, allowing the conversation to move to a more neutral, common space where you both feel more comfortable getting to know each other.
Attend Community Events
Here at Weidner, we love hosting community events, even virtual ones! This is a great way to meet new people and find common interests. Many of the residents who attend these events are also looking to meet new people, so there will be less hesitation to approach others and start a conversation.
Feel The Situation Out
Remember, just because you want to be friends with your neighbors doesn’t necessarily mean they want the same relationship. It’s important to feel out the situation and take hints. If your neighbors don’t respond to your note, utilize amenities, or attend events, they may prefer to keep to themselves, which is totally ok. Don’t be pushy or intrusive, but always remain polite and try to be a good neighbor.
Next time you move or have a new neighbor move in, utilize the tips above to get to know them better. Having friends in the community is a great way to make our apartments feel more like home.
