While Earth Day is now behind us, that doesn’t mean the importance of eco-friendly living stops. In fact, we believe it’s essential to treat our planet with the same love and respect every single day. When we hear the word “eco-friendly,” we tend to think of the more extreme styles of living, but there are many ways that you can help the planet that barely require you to change your normal routine. Keep reading to discover how you can help the planet today and every day.

Eco-Friendly living should extend beyond Earth Day!

Conserve Energy

In today’s day and age, we are so used to having electricity that we often forget how much we use it, and often to an unnecessary extent. Look around your apartment right now and examine the items that are pulling power. Do they need to be plugged in right now? If the answer is no, go unplug them. Even if they are not in use, they are still using electricity by being plugged in. We also suggest looking for natural solutions to issues that electricity typically fixes. For example, if it’s hot inside your home, unplug your fan and turn off the A/C and open a window instead. If you’re not getting enough light, open up the blinds or even work on your patio.

Recycle

Recycling is beneficial not only for the environment but also for your bank. We recommend having two trash cans in your home: one for trash and one for recycling. Once full, bring the recycling bin to your local recycling center, and you will receive some money in return. You may not feel too bad throwing away one or two recyclable items, but once you actually have a receptacle for them and start to see them piling up, you will realize just how much is going to waste.

Donate & Shop Second Hand

When the time comes to pick out a new wardrobe for Spring, don’t simply throw away your old clothes and head to the mall; instead, donate your old clothes to charity or your local Goodwill and do some thrift shopping while you’re at it. Buying new clothes simply adds more waste into the cycle of things that will eventually end up in a landfill. By donating and purchasing second-hand, you expand the lifespan of the clothing items and will help reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Eco-friendly apartment living is so much easier than it sounds. By utilizing the tips above, you can treat every day like Earth Day. Do you have any other advice for your neighbors? Feel free to share away in the comments below.
