California collaborates with the TIER Equine Rescue for Weidner Cares 2025!

This year’s Weidner Cares took our California associates to True Innocents Equine Rescue (TIER), a sanctuary in Riverside County that provides lifelong care for horses in the Southern California area who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned.

Founded in 1998, TIER runs entirely on donations and the hard work of its devoted team: owner Gail, her long-time employee, Santiago, and their watchful barn cat Crybaby. Like many other small nonprofits, the past few years have been tough on the team. Donations have slowed since COVID, and Gail lost an employee due to illness, leaving her to manage the rescue largely on her own.

When our associates arrived, the emotion was unmistakable. “We’ve been on a shoestring budget,” Gail shared, “and now that you’re here doing all of this, it’s going to make Santiago’s job easier. I just want to express my gratitude. It really means a lot to us, and to the horses.”

Our teams got to work replacing gates and fencing, painting corrals, trimming trees (thanks to the generous team from Liberty Tree Care), and cleaning stalls and paddocks. We built a canopy cover, refreshed the ranch house, and organized the property to make daily operations smoother for Gail and her team. Between the smiles, sweat, and a few “photo-bombing” horses eager for attention, the day embodied the heart of Weidner Cares.

One associate celebrating their one-year work anniversary summed it up best: “There’s no better way to celebrate than giving back.”

Through teamwork and compassion, our associates helped restore not just the ranch, but also the spirit of all the beautiful animals who call it home.

Thanks for extending a helping hand to those in need, California! We’re proud of you.

Weidner Apartment Homes’ Capitol Towers is Much More Than Just an Apartment

After nearly a year of social distancing and stay-at-home orders, it’s no wonder that more and more people are seeking to find an apartment that’s more than just a place to eat and sleep. Luxury apartment living is growing in popularity, offering not only a comfortable place to call home but also resort-like amenities to keep residents entertained, relaxed, and content. Possibly the best part is that these apartment living perks are just a few steps outside residents’ front doors. If you’re in Sacramento, CA, and debating moving into a luxury apartment, keep reading to learn some of the top amenities and activities to seek out when choosing your next home.

5 Reasons to Live in a Luxury Apartment in Sacramento, CA

1. Relaxing Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs

Perhaps one of the most desired amenities in luxury apartments is access to a community pool, hot tub, and spa. If you’re someone who enjoys decompressing after a long day of work, then consider a high-end apartment that offers ample space to treat yourself. In Sacramento, you can enjoy lounging by the pool several months out of the year. No need to pay for a fancy hotel or take an expensive vacation when a sparkling pool with comfortable lounge chairs is a short walk away.

2. State-of-the-Art Fitness Center

Although exercising may not be on everyone’s favorite-things-to-do list, it’s certainly convenient to have a top-notch fitness center in your apartment community. At the very least, you can save the money you’d spend on a gym membership by taking advantage of cardio machines, free weights, and workout rooms onsite. With the enforced lockdowns and gym closures, choosing a community with an available fitness center expands your living space and allows you to continue to stay fit and healthy.

Many luxury communities keep their fitness centers open around the clock so you can get your workout in when it’s convenient for you. When living in a high-end community, you’ll likely have an attentive staff that schedules regular facility cleanings to allow you and your fellow workout-buddies to exercise safely. Some even offer virtual yoga and other group fitness classes so you can meet like-minded neighbors.

3. Planned Social Activities

Speaking of neighbors, luxury communities often offer social activities to match just about every interest and taste. Not only will you be able to transform neighbors into friends, but you’ll get spoiled by having a full social calendar planned for you. Join the activities that appeal to you, and try out the less-familiar ones; you might find your next hobby! If you like your weekends booked with plans, choosing an upscale apartment community will likely provide numerous opportunities for fun events.

4. Shared Clubhouse

If you love to entertain, but your apartment isn’t large enough to host a gathering for all of your family and friends, choosing a luxury apartment community will allow you to expand your immediate living space with a reservable clubhouse. Often, upscale communities offer the option to reserve a high-end clubhouse for an afternoon or evening. When searching for your new home, be sure to check out the community’s onsite shared spaces. These spaces commonly include a comfortable gathering area, conversational seating, big-screen televisions, and a gourmet kitchen. Another bonus is that residents can usually rent these spaces without paying and caring for them daily, making luxury clubhouses a big perk to take advantage of in high-end apartments.

5. Business Center

If your job is remote, and you need more space for an office, or you’d prefer not to mix your home life with work, choosing a luxury apartment community is a great way to keep your square footage down and master the “work from home” routine. Most high-end communities offer a business center. This shared space is the perfect place to conduct those off-hour calls or handle an emergency request from the boss without going too far from home.

Where is Luxury Living in Sacramento?

If you’re ready to move into a home that’s much more than just an apartment, be sure to visit Capitol Towers Apartment Homes. If you’re an urban professional seeking a new apartment in Sacramento, keep your eye on an exciting project underway in the heart of downtown. Community leaders, including Sacramento officials and business owners, recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sacramento Commons project by Weidner Apartment Homes.

The project, now in its beginning phase, is located on the corner of Fifth and O streets and will feature two mirroring towers with retail shops and parking on the bottom two floors, and more than 430 multifamily apartments above.

Weidner’s Vice President for Public and Government Relations Greg Cerbana said, “By 2022, we expect to have an exciting new residence for Sacramento’s urban professionals in the downtown core,” adding, “We are committed to the Sacramento community. We’re not only building this new addition, but we plan on both owning and managing the property for many years to come.”

Cerbana commended Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Council member Steve Hansen for considering the project a welcome addition to the Sacramento skyline and for their help in making this project a reality. Mayor Steinberg said the Sacramento Commons is another big boost for Sacramento and the urban core,” and Councilmember Hansen, who represents the district, said, “New housing like this helps ensure that we continue to meet the growing needs of our city.”

Downtown Sacramento Partnership Executive Director Michael Ault who was also in attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony, said this addition to the downtown core is in line with “what downtown really used to be − the activity center for the region.”

Cerbana, who estimates the project will take approximately 32 months to complete, said, “By boosting population density, Weidner’s Sacramento Commons will contribute to the city’s increasingly vibrant downtown and make it more convenient and environmentally friendly for workers in the capital city.”

There are many reasons millennials, like you, are postponing buying a house – from student loan debt and tougher credit requirements to the lack of a down payment or the lack of desire to own a home, and you’re not alone. According to a recent Washington Post article, only 4% of millennials say they’ll buy a home next year, while at least 30% plan to wait for at least five years or longer. It’s just not as important as it has been to previous generations.

The good news is, oftentimes, renting a high-end apartment can provide you with even more perks and amenities than you’d get if you bought a house, including a Roman-style bathtub, sparkling swimming pool, fully-equipped fitness center, and a reservable space for private events.

Other advantages of joining an apartment community are increased opportunities for socializing and living in an ideal location that enables easy commuting and access to great dining, shopping and entertainment options.

What to look for in a high-end apartment

Upscale apartments tend to be architecturally interesting, pleasing to the eye, and they usually boast all the sweet extras that elevate apartment living. Here are some of the important things to check out when touring your future residence:

  • Unique and upscale appearance – From a soothing, elegant color palate to high-end amenities and beautifully landscaped surroundings, you'll want to be able to peacefully soak up the sun in a place you'll be proud to call home.
  • Modern kitchen – Forget low-end materials and cheap surfaces. A high-end apartment will feature granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a may offer a nice breakfast bar and a sizable pantry with adjustable shelves.
  • Convenient amenities – Each apartment and complex will have its own unique offerings, and it’s up to you to decide what amenities you can and can’t live with.
    • Indoors: You’ll want to choose from luxury features like custom cabinetry, energy-efficient appliances, generously-sized bathtubs, personal balconies, cooling ceiling fans, and a full-size in-unit washer/dryer for your convenience.
    • Outdoors: Once you step outside your front door, ask yourself what’s important to have in your surrounding community. Ideally, you’ll have access to resort-style community amenities like a state-of-the-art fitness center, a luxurious swimming pool, a loaded coffee station, and an outdoor grill/fire pit area reserved for residents. Also, be sure to ask if they offer the option to reserve the clubhouse for private events.
  • Location – Sometimes the beauty of an apartment can be further enhanced by its geographical location. Ask yourself “How long will it take to run errands and get to work?” In Riverside, it’s critical to be close to the 60 Freeway for a straight shot to LA, as well as to the 15. For the best location, look for an apartment in the epicenter of Jurupa Valley, Ranch Cucamonga, Ontario, Riverside, Fontana and Mira Loma.
  • 24-hour on-site maintenance – High-end apartments will have maintenance technicians on-site who place a high priority on resolving issues quickly and efficiently, even if they occur in the middle of the night.
  • Safety and security – Insist on living in a gated community, especially one that offers a courtesy security patrol to keep residents and the apartment community safe.
  • Variety of floor plans – Having a variety of choices allows you to pick the very best layout for your belongings and your lifestyle. You’ll want to be able to choose from 1, 2 & 3-bedroom floor plans for singles, couples, or families.
  • Online portal for payments and communication – To save time and maximize efficiency, choose an apartment community that offers you the option to pay your rent through an online portal, where you can also submit maintenance requests and securely message the office with any concerns or comments.
  • Parking options – The beauty of high-end apartment living is that complexes generally reserve a space or two for their tenants in an on-site lot, or for a small fee you can get covered carport parking or even an attached garage. No one has time to search for street parking. Having a designated spot just for you is a huge benefit.
  • Thriving community – The crowning perk of living in any apartment complex is when you’re surrounded by fun people and events. For example, Breeanna Lobo, community director at Vesada Apartment Homes in Riverside, makes it a priority to host regular resident events to encourage friendly fun for the people in her community. “Our residents love the events we host, like our annual ‘Spooktacular Halloween party’ with food, drinks, costume contests, raffle prizes, and tons of candy and goodie bags for the kids and grown-ups” said Lobo. This summer, she’ll throw a “Movie Night by the Pool” party – a family-friendly event featuring a fun film and including popcorn, snow cones, tacos and cold drinks. “It’s things like these events that really bring a community together, and it’s the best part of my job,” she said.

No matter what apartment you choose, consider all the factors mentioned above to help make sure you’re happy in your new home.

In keeping with the Weidner Cares tradition of devoting a single day to assisting a non-profit and helping them to provide services to the community, we're pleased to share our latest project in California: Operation SafeHouse.

The Operation SafeHouse mission is, "With Community Support, provides Emergency Shelter, Intervention and Outreach Services to Youth in Crisis."

"When families come to us, they're usually at their wit's end — parents are frustrated and children don't know where to turn. Our 21-day Emergency Shelter provides a caring staff that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for youth and their families who need help negotiating the often challenging road from childhood to an independent adult life."

In addition to providing emergency shelter, Operation SafeHouse promotes mental well-being with their "Cup of Happy" program.

"In partnership with Riverside County Department of Mental Health, the Cup of Happy program is a prevention and early intervention program focused on destigmatizing mental health issues for youth 16–25 years of age. We focus on providing healthy lifestyles and emotional wellness through a number of different programs that include creative writing courses, open mic nights, youth leadership classes and LGBTQ support groups. We promote these activities through health fairs, school campuses, school clubs/organizations, Youth Opportunity Centers and local youth hangouts."

The Weidner Cares Team was pleased to lend a helping hand to this incredible non-profit organization by revamping the facility that has been home to so many during the past 27 years. First, there was some organizing to do in the storage area. Maintenance Manager Adam Chadwick discovered that the area was overflowing and lacked a system, so the Weidner team, led by Mandy Urfer, created that system so that it would be safe and efficient for supply storage.

Next, the Weidner Cares Team took on the landscaping and irrigation system, replacing an antiquated sprinkler system with a drip system for optimum water conservation and efficiency. Doors, poles, and gates were painted, giving the facility a fresh and sleek new look. Resident apartments were deep cleaned, and carpets were replaced in the office. As always, what was most rewarding for the Weidner Cares team was the residents’ reaction to the new and improved facility that now looked so welcoming.

In fact, residents were so excited about the positive changes, they came out to help the volunteers. Giving back to the community, coupled with the unforgettable experience of bonding with teammates to serve the community is what keeps the Weidner Cares Team at it again and again. There's just nothing better than creating community through service.

Congratulations to all the volunteers that helped make Operation SafeHouse that much safer. Well done!

— The Weidner Team

What matters to you, matters to us.
