As back-to-school week looms large, so does the need for some last-minute socializing to add to the What I Did This Summer story! Here are a few ideas to help celebrate these last few days of summer vacation:
- Resident party with the neighbors. Reserve the resident lounge or clubhouse at your apartment community, and invite your neighbors! Have everyone bring their own specialty dish and a few of their favorite games and let the festivities begin!
- Gather some friends and indulge in a movie marathon. Whether you escape the heat in the comfort of your own home with your favorite streaming service, or you buy your movie theatre tickets in bulk, movie marathons are a fun way to gather, relax, and catch up on those summer blockbusters.
- Take your party to the nearest amusement park or county fair. Ride the rides, play the games, eat the cotton candy and take selfies galore in front of the clown mirror.
- Host an overnighter and invite everyone to bring their favorite dish. Add to the fun by adding a kitchen contest to it, i.e. the best cupcake, the best appetizer, the best sushi roll.
- Create and host a Treasure Hunt. Todays Parent has 11 Tips for Organizing an Awesome Treasure Hunt. These 11 tips can easily be adjusted for adults by increasing the difficulty of the items and locations.
- Host a family reunion and create a time capsule with all of your favorite summer memories and predictions for the year to come. Store it somewhere safe and open it up next summer. Then, do it again!
- Get to a waterpark one last time! Nothing says summer like a bunch of squealing kids and adults heading down a slippery slope at breakneck speed.
- Head to the beach and host a gourmet picnic. Who says picnics mean roughing it? Try these gourmet picnic ideas out from Dirty Gourmet and enjoy with some sun, surf, family, and friends.
- Host your own Chili Cook-Off competition. Get the word out to friends and family, then select a panel of 3 or more judges for the blind tasting, then start cooking! Whoever wins the taste contest, wins the prize. The prize could be cooking-related, or back-to-school related, or just something silly like a gnome that will now live on the winner's deck until the next chili challenge.
