Summer Strolls through the City!

  |     |   Uncategorized

Now that summer is here, strolling through the city is not only a fun activity, but it also has numerous health benefits, including strengthening your heart, toning muscles, burning calories, and elevating your mood. Those are all great benefits, but walking also gives you the opportunity to get to know your city!

Walkscore.com gives cities a walk score ranking based on the data analytics of “over 10 million locations” and “2 billion walking routes for 2,500 U.S. cities.” Their methodology also includes walking routes and nearby pedestrian-friendly amenities like restaurants and coffee shops.

Most cities have organized walking tours that help you get to know the city you live in, its history, culture, and architecture. There are also walking tours throughout the United States that explore the backroads. Let’s take a walk through some of America’s favorite cities and trails!

MSN.com recently organized a list of the 30 Top Walking tours in U.S. Cities. Stroll through Pike Place in Seattle, WA. Sing along with the music on the Austin Music Heritage Tour in Austin, TX. Give your eyes a real feast during the Art Walk in Phoenix, AZ. There’s something on this list for everyone!

Backroads.com will put you on the path to a picturesque trail throughout the U.S. From the stunning desert beauty of Sedona, to Alaska’s hiking trails through the wilderness, to trekking along Oregon’s coastline, you’ll find a trail for every level of fitness. You can filter your results by destination, travel dates, and fitness levels to design the ideal walking trip for you.

CountryWalkers.com also offers a similar invitation. “Whether you walk through the lush green forests that blanket the mountains of New England and Washington State, or across the wind-sculpted rock formations and desert terrain of Utah’s Canyonlands or California’s Death Valley, much of the country’s untouched natural resources have been preserved.” You can filter by state, destination, and fitness level. There are also options to purchase paid trips which include professional guides.
