How Often Should You Be Doing Chores?

When it comes to chores, you may feel like there are certain daily tasks you have to do to keep your home clean, while there are others that you simply have to do once or twice a month. Each home is different and leads to a different frequency of chores. While there are no steadfast rules that each home must follow, here are the guidelines that we recommend sticking to for a tidy home, regardless of your lifestyle.

Check out our new blog to find out how often you should be doing your chores.

Daily

The daily chores tend to be the smaller, less tasking ones. Think of your daily tasks as the things you need to reset for tomorrow. Things like making the bed, washing the dishes, cleaning the coffee maker, and wiping down the kitchen countertop and tables should be done daily so that by the time you go to use it again, it is set and ready to go. We also recommend sweeping the floors, squeegeeing the shower, and sanitizing the bathroom daily, if not every other day.

Weekly

The weekly chores tend to be a little more time-consuming because you let them build up to a certain point of needing to be cleaned. Our weekly chore list includes vacuuming and mopping the floors, dusting the furniture, cleaning inside the microwave, tossing out expired food, and changing the bedding. As you can see, these tasks don’t typically need to be done daily but would benefit from weekly cleaning. You can also add things like cleaning the mirrors, scrubbing the bathroom, and sanitizing the sponges to this list.

Monthly

Most of your chores should be done daily or weekly; however, some can be done on a monthly or as-needed basis. These include vacuuming vents and woodwork, dusting the blinds, dusting the light fixtures, and cleaning your appliances such as the dishwasher, laundry machine, etc. These particular tasks can be completed more frequently if you prefer. Remember, everyone’s home is different and requires different chore timeframes.

Every Few Months

The chores on the “every few months” list are the things that you either tend to forget about or don’t need to do very often. For us, this list includes washing the shower curtain liner, cleaning the patio/balcony furniture, cleaning inside the oven, and cleaning the curtains.

Now that you have a guideline for how often you should be completing the chores, share your thoughts with us! Do you tend to do certain tasks more often? Tell us all about it in the comments below.
