The kitchen is the heart of the home! With all the cooking, gathering, and general usage, it’s natural for your kitchen to become a little chaotic. From produce and grains to utensils and cookware, your kitchen is typically chock-full of items, and it’s best to set up a system to keep it organized. Keep reading for some helpful kitchen organization hacks for your apartment home.
Make Use of Vertical Space
When we think about organizing our kitchens, we typically think about the drawers and the cupboards, but we tend to forget about all the vertical space we can utilize. Instead of throwing your measuring cups into a drawer to get mixed up and jumbled, think about storing them vertically by placing Command hooks on the inside of the cupboard door; this way, they are easy to find and take up less space.
You can also free up your countertops by replacing your stationary spice rack with a vertical DIY magnetic spice rack to store your herbs under your cabinets. All you need to do is place a removable magnetic strip underneath your cabinet, glue a magnet on the lids of reusable jars, and fill the jars with your favorite spices. You'll love having your herbs within reach without taking up precious counter space. Take a look through your kitchen and keep an eye out for vertical space that is going to waste!
Invest In Some Tension Rods
We love utilizing tension rods in all of our apartments' rooms; they are convenient and leave no damage. You can place a tension rod on the side of your fridge, in the corner, or even under the sink. Once you have one placed, you can start using it to store anything that hangs, including pots and pans and even cleaning supplies.
Think About Diagonals
When you organize your drawers, you tend to think horizontally; however, diagonal is a better option! When we organize horizontally, it’s easy for things to get lost at the back of the drawer, whereas diagonally allows us to see things better. Plus, you can keep things together or equal in size, making it easier to put everything away after a long day of cooking. The same goes for storing pots, pans, and everything else; instead of lining the bottom of your cupboard and drawer with belongings, find storage solutions that utilize the vertical space, such as a lazy susan.
The more we use our kitchen, the more unorganized it becomes, but that shouldn’t stop you from becoming the chef of your dreams. By implementing the tips above, you can prepare ahead of time and help your home stay organized. Do you have any other helpful tips for your neighbors? Share away in the comments below.
