Tips for a Fantastic Staycation for You and Your Valentine

  |     |   Apartment Living, Lifehacks

Do you already have a fun Valentine’s Day planned for tomorrow, or are you waiting for the weekend to spend time with your significant other, best friends, or furry family members?

No matter who you spend the day with (or if you celebrate by treating yourself!) consider taking this weekend to relax and get away without even leaving your home. Planning a staycation can be the incredible break from your day-to-day stressors that you have been dreaming of. Not to mention, it is the most inexpensive way to vacation!

Check out all of our best tips to take an incredible staycation this Valentine’s Day weekend!

Get all of your chores done now

You don’t vacuum, do laundry, or dust when you go away, so don’t do it on your staycation. Get through all of your mundane tasks now, so you can enjoy your home as if it is your fabulous resort for the weekend. Wash all of your bathroom towels and bedding, and consider folding your towels into fancy shapes or using lavender spray on your bedding. You will also want to wash all of your dishes and put them away, and set out all of your favorite candles to get your home smelling great!

Shop for all of your favorite treats and snacks

Once you have your home prepped for your staycation, take a trip to the store to get your favorite treats and snacks to enjoy. You could lean into the holiday and get chocolates, strawberries, and other sweets. Or you could find the ingredients to your favorite meals, so you can cook some really great food during your weekend “away.” You can also use this trip to grab some luxurious details for your weekend, like little mints to leave on your pillows, citrus fruits to make refreshing infused water, and a bath bomb or eucalyptus to enhance your baths or showers!

Invite a loved one to join in on your “trip”

If you live alone, invite your best friend or a family member to spend the weekend with you. Think of it as a weekend-long slumber party, and prepare your guest bedroom with extra pillow mints and towels. You can also get your loved one’s favorite treats and snacks while you are picking up your own. You can spend the evening together cooking, or even get dinner at a great local restaurant. If a solo staycation isn’t your thing, then modify it, so you can enjoy your special weekend with someone you love!

Plan your activities

Your staycation can be whatever you want it to be, so you can stay inside all weekend and watch your favorite shows and movies if that is what you want. Or, you can visit that local museum that you can never make the time to check out. If the weather is nice, consider going to a local park, packing a picnic, and spending the day in the sun.

If you are spending the weekend with a loved one, you can plan an at-home spa day: wear fluffy bathrobes, apply face masks, and sip cucumber water while listening to relaxing music. Whatever you already love to do together can also be the agenda for the weekend. It is totally up to you to decide how to spend your staycation, but give it some thought ahead of time. You don’t want to miss out on any fun because you didn’t prepare!

Decorate Your Home for the Holiday

Buy or craft some fun Valentine’s Day decor to decorate your home for the weekend. You could paint flowers or hearts on tapered candles, blow up some heart-shaped balloons, or get a bouquet of flowers. If you don’t like the aesthetic that is associated with Valentine’s Day, then you can lean into your own color and design preferences!

Take advantage of your apartment amenities

If your apartment home community offers awesome amenities, then go enjoy them on your weekend “away.” It is so easy to take community amenities for granted and not make the time to enjoy them on a week-to-week basis. So, take a dip in the pool, take some time to release your stress at the gym, shoot some hoops at the basketball court, or relax at the spa this weekend!

Valentine’s Day can be a very expensive holiday, but it doesn’t have to be. Spending the weekend at home, but treating it like a weekend away, can be a great way to connect with yourself and your community. So take some time and figure out how you would best enjoy the weekend!
