A Day in the Life of a Weidner Maintenance Professional

Gorgeous, blooming flowers lining pristine walkways. Meticulously landscaped lawns, hedges, and trees. A sparkling pool surrounded by an inviting sun deck with tables, chairs, and chaise lounges all symmetrically and perfectly arranged. Clean, inviting apartment homes with every fan and appliance buzzing in exact working order, all seeming to say, “Welcome home!”

This ‘virtual tour’ of a Weidner property isn’t a mere idealistic description of a day in the life of a maintenance professional, it’s evidence of the expert job they do every day at all of our properties.

While their titles and duties may vary from Groundskeeper to Landscaper, to Housekeeper to Maintenance Technician and more, the goal of our maintenance professionals is the same: to create and maintain a superior resident experience.

Representing our more than 52,500 units located throughout the United States and Canada, the maintenance professional plays a key role in the value residents place on their apartment homes. A keen eye for detail, intuitive problem-solving skills, and a friendly, professional demeanor are just a few of the traits we look for when hiring a maintenance professional.

The first thing anyone sees at a Weidner property is our grounds – or as some say in the industry, our “curb appeal.” As our prospective resident enters the property, we are making an introduction that should say, “What matters to you, matters to us.” With only one opportunity to make a first impression, we know the importance of hiring excellent groundskeepers and landscapers.

At Weidner properties, the sounds of buzzing mowers and clippers along a hedge are all signs that our curb appeal is in great hands! On any given day – and sometimes that means rain or shine, our landscapers are multitasking throughout the property to keep the plants, trees, and shrubbery trimmed and pristine. Experts at creating an outdoor look that complements and supports the style of our communities, our landscapers and groundskeepers are doing everything from installing flower beds to raking and removing leaves, to fertilizing lawns, to snow removal when the weather calls for it!

The Apartment Maintenance Technician also plays an integral role in the resident's experience, from preparing apartment homes for occupancy to responding to service requests and performing repairs on electrical, plumbing, and appliances, including some carpentry, and a myriad of other tasks. When residents turn in a service request, it may pertain to everything from a leaking faucet to a broken tile, to a malfunctioning stove. Whatever the issue is, the Maintenance Technician must quickly and efficiently solve the problem so that our residents continue to enjoy the quality apartment living we are known for.

We recognize the exceptional amount of hard work that goes into a day in the life of a Maintenance Professional. We love to celebrate a job well done and every year at our W Awards, we acknowledge our hardworking teams, including the special category of “Masters of Maintenance.”

To all of our maintenance professionals, we sincerely thank you for your impeccable service, day in and day out so that our residents might know that “what matters to them, matters to us!” You truly are masters, and we couldn’t do it without you!
