The size of your party doesn’t have to be dictated by the size of the space it’s hosted in. We get it, you may feel worried about bringing a large group of friends into your home and not having the space to properly entertain. No problem! By implementing the following tips, your party’s only limit is your imagination.

Don't Stress About Seating

If you are used to having the place to yourself, chances are, you only have a few chairs scattered around the place. Don’t run out and purchase chairs just for this one event; instead, come up with creative seats for your guests. Put some pillows and blankets on the ground for your friends to sit on; this can create a cozy, Bohemian vibe, leading to a more intimate gathering. If your friends and having a good time, they won’t mind sitting on the floor.

Open up the Space

Don’t be afraid to redecorate for the party. Move the furniture around and place large, bulkier objects along the wall; this will maximize the open area, leaving room for socialization. You can even consider moving furniture to the other rooms that your guests will not be utilizing to make room for people to stand, dance, or sit. The less cluttered the space, the roomier it will feel for you and your guests.

Consider the Flow

Even in your home, it’s possible to have a traffic jam, so when planning your party, consider the flow of things and organize accordingly. For example, don’t place food or snacks near the door, so you may encourage a group to gather there, thus blocking the entryway. If you set up a buffet in the kitchen, place the plates where you want the line to start and make sure it will not block an important area such as the fridge.

Now that you know more about planning a big party in a small space, keep the aforementioned tips in mind during the planning process. Here at Weidner, we offer apartments of all sizes. However, don’t let the square footage of your home determine the square footage of the fun!

When you love your job, it shows in many ways. When you’re the community director of an apartment complex like Evelyn Carter at Velo on the Boulevard Apartment Homes in Salt Lake City, you’re motivated to find ways to share that spark with the residents who live in that community.

Inspired by Daniel Kageyama’s ”Love Notes” – communities can show love for their residents by doing simple things that “surprise and delight” – Carter decided to share that concept with the residents in her apartment community as a way of encouraging them to feel a deeper sense of connection to the place they call home.

“The people are the best thing about our community,” said Carter. “We have awesome residents – they’re very active here, both with each other and when attending the resident events we host every month.” Carter said she knows her residents feel the love because “we always have a great turnout at our events. People really seem to enjoy getting to know each other… getting to know their neighbors, and they keep coming back for more.”

Here are just a few of the ways that Carter and her team share Love Notes with the residents in their community:

  • Resident birthdays – Sometimes it’s the little things that have the biggest impact. Since it’s a smaller community with just 99 apartments, Carter said it’s possible for her staff to create personal touches, like honoring each resident’s birthday with a card signed by the entire team, and maybe including some candy or flowers to go along with it. “It makes people really happy and that makes us happy,” said Carter.
  • Movie room – When you’ve got a state-of-the-art surround-sound theater in your apartment community with a huge screen and comfy couches, it makes it easy to have fun where you live:
    • “We host movie nights, complete with popcorn and beverages, just as an enjoyable thing to do sometimes,” said Carter.
    • Residents also reserve the theater for movie marathons, video game battles, and TV events – “We have a close group here that reserves a room for ‘Bachelor Night’ where they watch and discuss the show and laugh… a lot. We’ve sprung for pizzas a few times, just to add to the party atmosphere,” said Carter.
  • Resident events – Carter makes it a point to host one or two events per month, just to keep the love alive. Some of these have included:
    • Super Bowl party – “We catered the party this year with some great game-day snacks and drinks, and had a nice turnout,” said Carter. “Everyone wants to do it again next year.”
    • Holiday movie marathons – During winter, the staff runs all-day holiday-movie marathons complete with warm drinks and treats.
    • St. Patrick’s Day party – “Can you believe that one of our leasing specialists volunteered to do all the cooking for the party this year? Everyone was thrilled – it was delicious and very much appreciated,” said Carter, adding, “I think that says a lot about how much we truly love working in this community.”
    • Easter Egg hunt – Since Velo on the Boulevard has mostly adult residents, instead of hiding candy, the staff hides plastic eggs containing numbers throughout the property, which the “finders” redeem in the office for a gift card as their prize.
    • Paint and sip – Carter and her team hosted a group painting lesson along with beverages of the burgeoning artists’ choice.
    • Summer BBQ party – Summer is a great time to be outside, and each summer, the residents in this Salt Lake City apartment complex chat while relaxing in the furnished outdoor lounge area, dance to the live music in the courtyard, and enjoy the catered BBQ food provided by the staff.
    • Taco Tuesday – Sometimes, just because it’s Tuesday, Carter and her crew host a Mexican food bar where the residents build their own tacos and chow down while listening to, what else?… Mariachi music, the perfect complement to the lively meals.
    • Pastries and hot chocolate bar – Way south of the border, and sometimes in Salt Lake City too, it gets ridiculously cold, so the staff sometimes surprises and delights residents with hot chocolate (complete with tons of different toppings) and a nice selection of pastries “to warm their day and, hopefully, their hearts,” said, Carter.
    • Breakfast on the go – Commuters in a hurry love this gesture because they can grab a bite and a cup of joe to go and arrive at work fueled up to start their day. Of course, all residents are invited and often partake in the AM treat.
    • Friendsgiving – “This is our favorite event,” said Carter. “We hold this about a week before Thanksgiving, and while we cater the main meal, the residents all bring desserts to share. It’s our most popular party and people talk about it all year long.” With this event, Carter has discovered a Love Note tradition that delights year after year.

Carter said she and her staff plan to keep giving Love Notes to their residents all throughout the year for one simple reason: “It’s super fun and all of us really enjoy it!”

If you want to live in a great apartment in Salt Lake City with special touches like a gas range and granite countertops that’s centrally located with beautiful mountain views and has a close and active community, contact the staff at Velo on the Boulevard Apartment Homes today to schedule your personal tour to find your perfect new home!

Searching for an apartment doesn’t have to be a hassle if you have a list of everything that’s important to you.

In your quest to find the perfect apartment in Tulsa, OK (or anywhere, for that matter), you’ll want to focus on finding a space that meets your needs and best fits your lifestyle. Apartment and community amenities are important, of course, but also remember to consider the location. In addition to dictating the length of your commute, there are other reasons why apartment location matters and why you need to choose with care.

Here are 6 advantages of living in a nice apartment with a fantastic location:

  1. Reduce your commute – No one wants to be stuck on the road for hours on the way to and from work. That’s why it’s crucial to figure out how far the apartment is from your job. Consider freeway access and proximity to public transportation options before choosing where to live.

  1. Cut back the time spent in your car – Running errands is part of life, so you’ve got to be close to grocery stores, gas stations, libraries, schools – whatever’s important to you. If you can easily walk to nearby places that you frequent, or live just minutes away, you’ll wisely be prioritizing convenience and creating more time to enjoy your life.

Brenda Kolb, Community Director of The Enclave at Brookside Apartment Homes, in Tulsa, OK, said, “Many of our residents choose us for our prime location and often go on foot to Whole Foods Market or Reasor’s to pick up groceries or a quick bite to eat. They also love the walkable neighborhood that offers coffee shops, pubs, shops, and the park with its riverside trails."

  1. Enjoy your pets – When considering which apartment to choose, you’ve got to think about the quality of life of your fur babies as well. If you’re living with pets, choose an apartment community that welcomes them as part of your family.

  2. Ensure your safety – Research the crime rate of any neighborhood you’re considering to make sure the crime rate is low so it’s safe and secure.

  1. Be near the things you love to do – Because different neighborhoods each have their pros and cons, the key is to choose an apartment in a location that best matches your lifestyle. Besides your commute and errand-running, also think about how close you are to entertainment centers, shopping malls, parks, restaurants and more. The closer an apartment is to these places, the better the location.

“We’re within walking distance of The Gathering Place, which was voted the Best New Attraction last year, and it’s just a great place to go year-round,” Kolb said. Attractions include an adventure playground, a boathouse, splash playground, a huge lawn area, outdoor sports courts, a skate park, a wetland pond and garden, and several trails.

  2. Take advantage of community apartment amenities – In addition to the surrounding neighborhood, if you choose your apartment location wisely, you’ll only have to walk out your front door to enjoy a wide variety of perks. For example, “Our community provides high-end amenities to give our residents ample opportunities to enhance their good health and enjoyment,” said Kolb. “We offer a smoke-free community, a great pool, and Pulse, our fitness center, that’s the perfect place to stay in shape with a yoga studio, cardio section and multi-circuit equipment,” she said. “And, when the workout is over, they hang out in our outdoor pavilion complete with a grilling station, two big flat screen TVs, and a gorgeous firepit, to relax and hang with friends and family,” she added.

If you're searching for the good life in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and would enjoy living in an apartment that’s a fusion of modern design, location, and technology with a sophisticated urban twist, contact us today. You're sure to be impressed with The Enclave at Brookside Apartment Homes.

Having fun in the sun is easy when you live in beautiful Prince Albert, located on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River in Canada. If you’re looking for some entertaining summer activities in the area, choose from the wide variety below:

Kinsmen Water Park

Open from early June to late August, this water park offers enough activities to fill an entire day, including two water slides, a river ride slide, a whirlpool, two tot slides, a tot pool, a main pool and a leisure pool with a spray umbrella and spray tree. It also features picnic/patio areas, a play apparatus and a canteen.

Downtown Art Walk

Held on the first Thursday of each month from June to early September, several art galleries, restaurants and businesses host an evening art walk in downtown Prince Albert. Participants join a walking tour to enjoy a wide spectrum of art created by local and provincial artists. Venues include the Mann Art Gallery, GP Carlson Gallery, John V. Hicks, Grace Campbell Gallery, On the Avenue, Bison Café, Prim & Proper Decor, Funky Fresh Café & Bistro, The Rusty Owl and The Tartan Table.

Prince Albert National Park

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy camping, cycling, hiking, canoeing, waterskiing and wakeboarding at Prince Albert National Park during our beautiful summer months. Waskesiu, the lakeside town that serves as the park’s center, offers an inviting beach where you can bask in the sun and swim, or you can venture deep into the park to explore backcountry lakes and enjoy wild flora and fauna including birds, deer, moose, and bison.

Kidz Fest

This event, just for kids, is usually held each year in mid-July in Prince Albert’s Kinsmen Park. It’s great family fun with many free activities for kids of all ages, including:  balloon animals, bubble stations, stilt-walkers, princesses, stage shows, and lots of fun games. You might want to bring along some money for the food stands and vendor booths, because you know the kids are going to ask.

Little Red River Park

Walk, hike, and bike through 1,200 acres of spectacular nature while visiting Prince Albert’s largest park. Little Red River Park is located just five minutes from downtown on Highway 55 towards Candle Lake and is especially beautiful in the summer months. The 5-kilometre River Trail multi-use loop takes you through all the ecosystems in the park. There’s also a playground for the kids, a picnic site and camp kitchens with BBQ pits. And don’t miss the famous Swinging Bridge, a pedestrian suspension bridge that traverses over the Spruce River.

Prince Albert Exhibition Annual Summer Fair

Held each year toward the end of July, the Prince Albert Exhibition Annual Summer Fair kicks off with a 2-hour parade that ends at the Exhibition Grounds. The event features everything you’d expect from a fair, including amusement rides, concession booths, livestock shows, races, a tractor pull and much more. There are special activities just for kids, and grandstand entertainment for everyone’s enjoyment.

Golfing

Try for that elusive hole-in-one at any of the four golf courses in the Prince Albert area:

  1. Cooke Municipal Golf Course, an 18-hole public course in Prince Albert on 22nd Street East, has a rich history dating back to 1909, and recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation.
  2. Fairview Fairways, a 9-hole public course located just two kilometres southeast of Prince Albert on Highway #3, offers picturesque views and a “variety of experiences” during play.
  3. Kachur’s Golf Club, an 18-hole members-only course located 10 minutes from Prince Albert off of SK-55, boasts long fairways, challenging water hazards, and scenic views.
  4. Marks Nine Golf & Country Club, a 9-hole private course, is a 5-minute drive from Prince Albert and is known for its well-manicured greens and ease-of-play.

Prince Albert Farmers Market

What better way to spend the morning than to visit a spectrum of creative local vendors offering their goods and services to the local community? Besides the freshest fruits and vegetables, you’ll also find home-baked goods, and snacks galore. The Prince Albert Farmers Market is open every Saturday during the summer months between 8 AM and 1 PM. Go while you’re hungry so you can enjoy all the delicious samples.

Walking Downtown Food & Historical Tour

For $20 per person, you can take a walking tour in downtown Prince Albert to learn about our city’s history. Included in the price are a sampling of snacks from local restaurants and a transferable one-day pass to all four Prince Albert museums.

There’s a very special group of people living in an apartment community in Abilene, TX. “They all know each other, help each other, and care about each other,” said Janet Dawkins, Community Director of Lexington Court Apartment Homes, about her residents when asked what makes her place unique.

Dawkins is a fan of author Peter Kageyama’s “For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places”, particularly his ideas concerning creating
Love Notes which are “small, hyper-local and fun interventions” for the health and progress of a community. She wanted to find ways to adopt the concept of creating Love Notes for the residents in her apartment community to foster a sense of pride and belonging in the people who live there, and so far, she’s been amazed at the results.

“It’s a small community, and I think that’s why this experiment has been so successful,” said Dawkins when asked about the results so far. “The sense of loving and caring about each other has spread like wildfire and keeps growing here,” she said.

Here are some ways Dawkins has created Love Notes for her residents:

It’s the little things that matter

“I just try to listen sometimes, and pay attention to what people are talking about,” said Dawkins when asked how she thinks of ways to share the love with her residents. If it’s good news or challenging news, she said she tries to “share a kind word, or even a card with well-wishes sometimes – just something to keep their spirits up and let them know we care.” Since it’s a pet-friendly community, she also keeps dog treats in office to share with her residents’ furry family members.

If you build it, they will come

Dawkins noticed that some of her residents tended to congregate around the mailbox area, chatting as they waited for the postal carrier. “I thought it would be nice if they had someplace to sit while they’re talking,” so she had her maintenance crew build benches where “residents can relax in the shade as they hang out and chat,” she said.

Resident activities

“Having an involved and active community is a sign that you’re doing your job right,” said Dawkins. She likes to keep things hopping for her residents, and she’s found that they are “ready to play”. A few of the many resident functions she’s hosted so far include:

  • Scavenger hunts – This spring, she hid Easter eggs around the property that contained clues to win the grand prize
  • Window bingo – The residents have a bingo card, she posts a letter/number combo in the office window daily, and “Bingo!” someone wins the prize when they fill in that magic row.
  • Group socials – Many members of the community gather together in the clubroom for fun times, mostly centering around food themes like ice cream day, or a Texas favorite, Frito Pie day, where residents belly up to the taco bar and create their own Frito Pie extravaganzas. “It just makes my day to look around and see people eating, talking, laughing together… it’s what makes my job so enjoyable,” said Dawkins.

Group outings

She also recognized that people tend to have fun in numbers, and, since they often like to go out together to enjoy the shopping, dining and green spaces surrounding the property, she helps to facilitate the outings from their prime location whenever possible:

  • Grover Nelson Park is within walking distance of their Abilene apartment community, where they can enjoy walking, kayaking, and swimming surrounded by scenic views.
  • Abilene Zoo and Botanical Park, with more than 1,000 animals, beautiful gardens, a lake and park, is also just down the route for her residents.
  • Rose’s Mexican Restaurant and the Lytle Lake Steakhouse are just two of the dining options to choose from to celebrate special occasions or just enjoy a simple meal together.

If you’re looking for a great apartment in Abilene with a close and active community in a quiet park-like setting, contact us today at Lexington Court Apartment Homes. We’re ready to schedule your personal tour and help you find the perfect place to call home!

Anchorage, a contemporary urban community surrounded by awe-inspiring wilderness, is Alaska’s largest city. It’s a relatively young city, and it’s flourishing, boasting high-end art galleries, exquisite shopping and award-winning restaurants at its core, with spectacular unspoiled wilderness just outside the city limits.

Despite the large size and population of the city, Anchorage can feel like a much smaller town. During the long summer days, locals soak up the sun while they walk, bike and ride, enjoy outdoor festivals and concerts, and picnic in the parks. When winter comes, they bundle up and embrace the cold – skiing, snowboarding, skating and snow machining their way through the chilly months.

There’s so much to do in Anchorage – from exploring museums and learning about native culture, to hiking and reveling in the natural wonders that surround you – you’ll never run out of adventures.
