Fun Facts About Dogs

  |     |   Apartment Living

In these modern times, we consider our pets to be part of our family. That’s why, at Weidner Apartment Homes, we are passionate about providing pet-friendly apartment communities that happily welcome your pups!

Here are some fun facts about dogs that are sure to increase the love you already have for your four-legged fur babies:

Dogs are naturally kind
An Australian study showed that dogs are among a small group of animals who show voluntary unselfish kindness towards others without expecting something in return. This is one of the main reasons why canines have been domesticated and even employed (think service dogs and rescue dogs) across a variety of fields throughout history. Further training helps fine-tune those abilities.

Dogs have a third eyelid
Did you know dogs have three eyelids? The third one is known as the “nictitating membrane”, and it closes across the eye. It serves as extra protection for dogs’ eyes, especially when they’re running in dusty areas like parks. A dog’s third eyelid also helps keep their eyes more lubricated since it produces one third of their tears to help protect them from infections.

Dog noses are truly unique
Why are dogs’ noses always wet? Well, because it helps them absorb scent chemicals! Notice how a dog always licks its nose after it’s done sniffing something? By licking its nose, it’s sampling these scent particles to help further to identify them. No wonder their sense of smell is so incredible! Also, fun fact: a dog’s noseprint is unique, just like a person’s thumbprint!
