Great Ways to Make Moving Easier

Moving can be really stressful, but it doesn’t have to be!

The best thing that you can do to avoid a bad moving experience is to make a plan. But maybe this is your first move and you don’t know what to expect, so you aren’t quite sure how to plan. Or perhaps you are really busy and need this move to be as efficient as possible. Even if you have a lot of experience with moving, you still might benefit from some fresh ideas to make your great system even better!

We came up with three great tips to help make your life easier, and we are certain that you will be glad you put them into practice.

Three Tips to Make Your Move Easier

  1. Number Your Boxes

This is the kind of tip that you might not fully appreciate until you think you have misplaced a box, but it is a very simple step to add. All you have to do is count up all of your packed boxes, and then write which number each box is out of the total. So, for example, if you had 20 boxes you would write 1/20, 2/20, 3/20, and so on. You could even write out on a sheet of paper what kinds of items are in each box, so they are super organized without advertising what potentially valuable items they contain.

  1. Pack an Overnight Bag

There are some basic necessities that you will still need to use up until the day you move, and you will also need them on your first night in your new place before you’ve unpacked everything. You will not regret packing a backpack or duffel bag with these essentials, so you can still brush your teeth, change your socks, etc. Include any of your basic toiletries, a change of clothes or two, daily medication, and anything else you might want or need immediately before and after your move.

  1. Use Towels and Scarfs to Secure Fragile Items

You already have to pack your towels, scarfs, and other soft fabric belongings, so you might as well put them to good use and pad your more fragile items with them. This works especially well for dishes, glassware, and small picture frames. Plus, this saves you from spending extra money on packing materials. You will probably still want to wrap things like vases, large art, and lamps with bubble wrap or something similar, but this is still a great hack for smaller items.
