In late 2019, Weidner Apartment Homes, a privately-held global real estate investment and property management company, decided to eliminate their use of Facebook for ethical reasons. At the time, the platform was heavily scrutinized for its mismanagement of user privacy, data breaches, and shifting advertising practices. As an industry leader, Weidner took an intelligent risk and was one of the pioneers in property management to stop using Facebook.

In Weidner’s previous statement explaining why they opted out of Facebook, their Chief Information Officer, Peter Kim, said, “We recognize that Facebook is still a relatively young company and may just be experiencing growing pains that they can address and correct with time. We’re encouraged by Facebook’s promises to improve the platform regarding data-sharing and protecting the privacy of its users. We will continue to monitor Facebook and its partners to see if it will become a more reliable and viable platform to use in the future.”

Since their decision, Weidner continued to monitor Facebook and its efforts to improve. In recent developments, Facebook has tripled its safety and security teams, built new privacy tools, and made substantial financial contributions to enhance its platform’s safety. Based on these advancements, and after careful stipulation and extensive research, the company’s executive leadership team has concluded that Facebook is a safe platform to resume utilizing.

Now, Weidner’s corporate account and entire portfolio will resume posting and advertising on Facebook. Weidner is excited to re-open this opportunity to expand its online reach to help more individuals find community at a Weidner property.
