The renovations at Indigo Apartments Homes in Oklahoma City have inspired neighboring businesses to upgrade as well. The Indigo Apartment Community in Oklahoma City is creating a buzz for all the right reasons. What was once a somewhat dated apartment complex in need of an upgrade is now a standout community that is elevating the surrounding neighborhood. In short, Indigo has undergone some major renovations and has proven that putting investments and hard work into this area south of Edmond can reap significant rewards.

Indigo’s lengthy list of upgrades and renovations hasn’t just changed the lives of the people who live there. This total transformation has started a ripple effect, encouraging other businesses and buildings to make similar changes to their properties as well. Slowly, an area that once felt forgotten is now getting the attention it deserves.

Before Weidner’s move to renovate, the community needed some major work. However, it was also very clear that its location, just 15 minutes from Downtown and directly across the street from the Chisholm Creek shopping district, is what gave it so much potential.

The Location

Indigo Apartments is located right off of the Kilpatrick Turnpike, making it easy to commute to work and school. It’s also central to some of OKC’s biggest employers, such as Mercy Hospital and the Paycom company headquarters. From Indigo Apartment Homes, you’re 15 minutes from Lake Hefner, Mecklenburg Park, and the Martin Park and Nature Center. Residents appreciate being a short drive to local restaurants, boutiques, high-end retailers, and big-box stores like Costco and Walmart. The location just south of Edmond attracts people who lead active social lives.

The Transformation

Over the last several months, the Indigo Apartment Homes community has been in revitalization mode. From completely transformed apartments to upgraded amenities and plans for future upgrades, the apartment community is completely unrecognizable from the place it used to be.

The Apartments

Every Indigo apartment has been through a complete demo process and thorough renovation. Everything has been upgraded to give residents a more high-end living experience. The new and improved apartments now include:

  • New washer and dryers
  • Brand new stainless-steel appliance packages
  • Elegant granite countertops
  • Brand-new AC systems
  • New floors, baseboards, light switches, and outlet covers
  • New cabinets
  • New tubs, showers, and sinks
  • New paint
  • Upgrades to the patios and balconies
  • New windows and doors

Although these new luxuries come with a nominal increase in rent prices, Community Director Miles Diaz reports that a high percentage of current residents have renewed their leases and chosen to stay in the community because it’s so beautiful, and they love living at Indigo. In fact, some of them have lived here for 20+ years and are excited to be a part of this dramatic transformation of a neighborhood they’ve grown to love.

The Amenities

Not only have the individual apartments been upgraded to meet the needs of current residents, but major renovations have been happening across all areas of the community. One of the most exciting improvements is a dedicated Residents’ Center designed to meet the specific needs of the people who call Indigo home. This comfortable and functional community space will feature Wi-Fi access, comfortable lounge furniture, a large-screen TV, and rentable business space.

The community also has a team dedicated to answering resident questions, renewing leases, facilitating maintenance, and offering quick and professional service to those who live there. This allows the leasing center to schedule tours and assist new and prospective residents, while the Resident Center team can focus specifically on current residents, offering more effective, efficient, and streamlined service.

Some of the great community amenity upgrades include:

  • A brand-new resort-style pool
  • New awnings and lounge furniture around the pool
  • A new outdoor gas fire pit and charcoal and gas grills
  • New turf area with a yard game and community space
  • Outdoor dining areas and plenty of outdoor seating
  • Fully resurfaced and re-tiled second community pool
  • Splash pad (Coming soon)
  • Dog park and neighborhood pet stations
  • A spectacular fitness center with cardio equipment, strength-training machines, and free weights
  • Onsite after-hours security patrol
  • Onsite maintenance

Indigo Apartments is redefining apartment living for residents in OKC. It is proof that with a lot of hard work, hope, and hustle, change can happen. Growth can happen. And the growth within Indigo Apartments has started a ripple effect. A part of town that may once have been known for low-rent apartments and outdated surroundings is now starting to shine. People want to move here. People want to live here. People want to stay here. Schedule a tour and you’ll see why!

We’re excited about what Indigo Apartment Homes is doing, and has done, for the local neighborhood. We’re proud of how the community, the residents, the staff, and our neighbors have stood by us during this transformation.

Want to see the community that has started a transformation in OKC? Call us today and schedule a tour of the new and improved Indigo Apartment Homes. Come see why so many people are excited about being a part of what Indigo Apartment Homes is doing, and see how you can be a part of it too!

We appreciate our friendly and proficient maintenance teams very much. They respond to our residents’ requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner and solve any issues that arise in our apartment communities.

Maintenance technicians offer a wide spectrum of valuable skills – from electrical systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to plumbing, painting, carpentry and more – that ensure the success of our apartment communities.

Here are 6 reasons we love and appreciate our wonderful maintenance teams:
  1. They’re an essential part of our communities.
  2. They’re highly trained and prepared for any situation, and this helps to create a functioning and happy home for our residents.
  3. They figure out brilliant ways of caring for and improving our homes by performing regular and preventative maintenance tasks to keep things running and thriving.
  4. They’re on call after hours to make sure we’re covered in case of an emergency.
  5. They’ve got impressive toolboxes and admirable skills.
  6. They happily contribute to our strong sense of community.

Let’s give our maintenance techs the credit they deserve. The next time you see any member of the team in your apartment community, remember that positive interactions between technicians and residents, from a quick hello in the hallway or a pleasant chat during repairs, can lead to a great experience for both of you.

When you love your job, it shows in many ways. When you’re the community director of an apartment complex like Evelyn Carter at Velo on the Boulevard Apartment Homes in Salt Lake City, you’re motivated to find ways to share that spark with the residents who live in that community.

Inspired by Daniel Kageyama’s ”Love Notes” – communities can show love for their residents by doing simple things that “surprise and delight” – Carter decided to share that concept with the residents in her apartment community as a way of encouraging them to feel a deeper sense of connection to the place they call home.

“The people are the best thing about our community,” said Carter. “We have awesome residents – they’re very active here, both with each other and when attending the resident events we host every month.” Carter said she knows her residents feel the love because “we always have a great turnout at our events. People really seem to enjoy getting to know each other… getting to know their neighbors, and they keep coming back for more.”

Here are just a few of the ways that Carter and her team share Love Notes with the residents in their community:

  • Resident birthdays – Sometimes it’s the little things that have the biggest impact. Since it’s a smaller community with just 99 apartments, Carter said it’s possible for her staff to create personal touches, like honoring each resident’s birthday with a card signed by the entire team, and maybe including some candy or flowers to go along with it. “It makes people really happy and that makes us happy,” said Carter.
  • Movie room – When you’ve got a state-of-the-art surround-sound theater in your apartment community with a huge screen and comfy couches, it makes it easy to have fun where you live:
    • “We host movie nights, complete with popcorn and beverages, just as an enjoyable thing to do sometimes,” said Carter.
    • Residents also reserve the theater for movie marathons, video game battles, and TV events – “We have a close group here that reserves a room for ‘Bachelor Night’ where they watch and discuss the show and laugh… a lot. We’ve sprung for pizzas a few times, just to add to the party atmosphere,” said Carter.
  • Resident events – Carter makes it a point to host one or two events per month, just to keep the love alive. Some of these have included:
    • Super Bowl party – “We catered the party this year with some great game-day snacks and drinks, and had a nice turnout,” said Carter. “Everyone wants to do it again next year.”
    • Holiday movie marathons – During winter, the staff runs all-day holiday-movie marathons complete with warm drinks and treats.
    • St. Patrick’s Day party – “Can you believe that one of our leasing specialists volunteered to do all the cooking for the party this year? Everyone was thrilled – it was delicious and very much appreciated,” said Carter, adding, “I think that says a lot about how much we truly love working in this community.”
    • Easter Egg hunt – Since Velo on the Boulevard has mostly adult residents, instead of hiding candy, the staff hides plastic eggs containing numbers throughout the property, which the “finders” redeem in the office for a gift card as their prize.
    • Paint and sip – Carter and her team hosted a group painting lesson along with beverages of the burgeoning artists’ choice.
    • Summer BBQ party – Summer is a great time to be outside, and each summer, the residents in this Salt Lake City apartment complex chat while relaxing in the furnished outdoor lounge area, dance to the live music in the courtyard, and enjoy the catered BBQ food provided by the staff.
    • Taco Tuesday – Sometimes, just because it’s Tuesday, Carter and her crew host a Mexican food bar where the residents build their own tacos and chow down while listening to, what else?… Mariachi music, the perfect complement to the lively meals.
    • Pastries and hot chocolate bar – Way south of the border, and sometimes in Salt Lake City too, it gets ridiculously cold, so the staff sometimes surprises and delights residents with hot chocolate (complete with tons of different toppings) and a nice selection of pastries “to warm their day and, hopefully, their hearts,” said, Carter.
    • Breakfast on the go – Commuters in a hurry love this gesture because they can grab a bite and a cup of joe to go and arrive at work fueled up to start their day. Of course, all residents are invited and often partake in the AM treat.
    • Friendsgiving – “This is our favorite event,” said Carter. “We hold this about a week before Thanksgiving, and while we cater the main meal, the residents all bring desserts to share. It’s our most popular party and people talk about it all year long.” With this event, Carter has discovered a Love Note tradition that delights year after year.

Carter said she and her staff plan to keep giving Love Notes to their residents all throughout the year for one simple reason: “It’s super fun and all of us really enjoy it!”

If you want to live in a great apartment in Salt Lake City with special touches like a gas range and granite countertops that’s centrally located with beautiful mountain views and has a close and active community, contact the staff at Velo on the Boulevard Apartment Homes today to schedule your personal tour to find your perfect new home!

You’re looking for an apartment in Anchorage, AK – congratulations! Anchorage, is an amazing place to live with its modern conveniences, proximity to outdoor adventures, and breathtaking views.

Whether you’re a college student, a medical professional, are working in retail and have roommates, or are just saving for a rainy day, here are four helpful tips on how to snag a nice apartment without breaking the bank:

  1. Live close to work, shopping and entertainment – Location is everything. To cut down on the cost of fuel, make sure you choose an apartment offers accessibility to destinations that are important to you. Try for a place that’s close to the University of Texas at Permian Basin and also near Walmart Supercenter and Target to satisfy your shopping needs. If your apartment is within walking distance to UAA, and close to APU, Providence Hospital, Alaska Native Medical Center, and JBER military base, you’ve scored a winner.

Also, try to live within a 10-minute drive to downtown Anchorage, where you’ll find additional places to shop, dine, and have fun. Ideally, you’ll find an apartment community that’s tucked away inside a neighborhood in a secluded Anchorage setting near everything you need rather than on a busy, noisy street.

  1. Consider customer service as a necessity – To get more bang for your buck, look for an older apartment community. Robert Palisoc, Community Director for Rancho Tudor Apartment Homes in Anchorage, AK, has experience in that area. “We might not be the newest place in town, but we have deep experience and pride ourselves on providing outstanding customer service to our residents, including having a very responsive maintenance team, plus our prices are super reasonable, so it’s a solid choice to rent with us and save money,” he said.

  1. Live around fun, nice people – When you’re on a tight budget, sometimes you don’t have the money to go out as much as you might like to. That’s why it’s important to find an apartment community where the residents and staff get along well and enjoy doing things together.

“We love our residents here, so we try to do nice things for them as often as possible, like throwing a pizza party just for fun, or hosting our annual summer BBQ where lots of our residents attend and really enjoy hanging out and getting to know their neighbors,” said Palisoc. “Sometimes we give away doughnuts that our residents can grab while they’re taking advantage of our free coffee station to save money and fuel up before school or work,” he said.

  1. Enjoy low-cost experiences in your free time – Besides the activities and events in your apartment community, you shouldn’t have to venture far to enjoy the plethora of fun your city has to offer. There are lots of cheap and entertaining things to do in Anchorage:
  • Grab a slice at Uncle Joe’s Pizza
  • Admire the masterpieces at the Anchorage Museum (student ticket discount)
  • Shop for bargains at the Northway Mall
  • Enjoy a pint and experience Anchorage’s cool craft beer scene at the 49th State Brewing Co.
  • Catch a drama or comedy at the Alaska Center for Performing Arts (student ticket discount)
  • Ski, jog, picnic, play disc golf, and maybe even spot a moose at Kincaid Park
  • Go hiking and see gorgeous waterfalls on Portage Pass

If you’re ready to move to Alaska and need a spacious, affordable apartment in Anchorage in a prime location with a warm and active community and great staff, contact us today at Rancho Tudor Apartment Homes. We’re here to schedule your personal tour and help you find the perfect apartment to call home.

Is your home feeling a little impersonal? Sometimes, it's too easy to lose yourself in a sea of flat-pack furniture from your closest big box retailer.

We’re not saying there’s anything wrong with easy and affordable furniture, it can just lack some personality. There’s no better way to infuse your home with style and sustainability than by completing a DIY project. These projects are a way to make something with your hands and upcycle a piece of furniture or fabric that could very well end up in a landfill. It’s easy to go green and create amazing accent pieces, with the DIY projects outlined below.

Put a Curtain On It

Have a blank space you don’t know what to do with? What about hanging a large statement piece? With a little hardware, some patience, and a shower curtain, you can make a wall hanging that only looks expensive. This DIY from House of Jade Interiors may look complicated, but it’s actually quite easy.

All you need to do is go to your closest Home Depot, pick out some wood for the frame–the lovely employees can cut the wood for you–pick up the necessary nails and hardware if you don’t have them already, and repurpose an old shower curtain. Put the frame together, iron the curtain, then stretch and nail the curtain onto the frame. It helps to have an extra set of hands. We’ve found that bribing your friends with a large pizza will do the trick.

This is an easy way to create a statement piece for your home that’s incredibly light and easy to hang. You can display it with strategically placed command hooks. Sourcing all these materials, from the nails to the shower curtain, is easy, just check your nearest Home Depot.

Fix Up Your Old Furniture!

Have some old or ugly office furniture you don’t know what to do with? It’s amazing what a simple coat of paint can do. If you’re stuck staring at an old file cabinet and wondering what to do with it, paint it! If you’re on the hunt for some cheap pieces, flea markets and antique malls are full of old office furniture waiting for a facelift. Kelly, of the DIY blog Sprinkled & Painted, shows how she gave a 100-year-old file cabinet a much-needed facelift.

With a little bit of elbow grease and spray paint, a drab piece of office furniture can really tie the room together. A simple trip to Home Depot is all you need to get the supplies. As for a workspace, just ask your property manager! There are some outdoor spaces on your property, and you are more than welcome to use them. Just ask your property manager what space you can use for things like sanding and spray-painting.

Personal touches make your apartment truly feel like home. Though DIY may seem intimidating at first, these projects are truly an easy and fun way to add some unique charm to your living space. Having fun in the sun is easy when you live in beautiful Prince Albert, located on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River in Canada. If you’re looking for some entertaining summer activities in the area, choose from the wide variety below:

Kinsmen Water Park

Open from early June to late August, this water park offers enough activities to fill an entire day, including two water slides, a river ride slide, a whirlpool, two tot slides, a tot pool, a main pool and a leisure pool with a spray umbrella and spray tree. It also features picnic/patio areas, a play apparatus and a canteen.

Downtown Art Walk

Held on the first Thursday of each month from June to early September, several art galleries, restaurants and businesses host an evening art walk in downtown Prince Albert. Participants join a walking tour to enjoy a wide spectrum of art created by local and provincial artists. Venues include the Mann Art Gallery, GP Carlson Gallery, John V. Hicks, Grace Campbell Gallery, On the Avenue, Bison Café, Prim & Proper Decor, Funky Fresh Café & Bistro, The Rusty Owl and The Tartan Table.

Prince Albert National Park

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy camping, cycling, hiking, canoeing, waterskiing and wakeboarding at Prince Albert National Park during our beautiful summer months. Waskesiu, the lakeside town that serves as the park’s center, offers an inviting beach where you can bask in the sun and swim, or you can venture deep into the park to explore backcountry lakes and enjoy wild flora and fauna including birds, deer, moose, and bison.

Kidz Fest

This event, just for kids, is usually held each year in mid-July in Prince Albert’s Kinsmen Park. It’s great family fun with many free activities for kids of all ages, including:  balloon animals, bubble stations, stilt-walkers, princesses, stage shows, and lots of fun games. You might want to bring along some money for the food stands and vendor booths, because you know the kids are going to ask.

Little Red River Park

Walk, hike, and bike through 1,200 acres of spectacular nature while visiting Prince Albert’s largest park. Little Red River Park is located just five minutes from downtown on Highway 55 towards Candle Lake and is especially beautiful in the summer months. The 5-kilometre River Trail multi-use loop takes you through all the ecosystems in the park. There’s also a playground for the kids, a picnic site and camp kitchens with BBQ pits. And don’t miss the famous Swinging Bridge, a pedestrian suspension bridge that traverses over the Spruce River.

Prince Albert Exhibition Annual Summer Fair

Held each year toward the end of July, the Prince Albert Exhibition Annual Summer Fair kicks off with a 2-hour parade that ends at the Exhibition Grounds. The event features everything you’d expect from a fair, including amusement rides, concession booths, livestock shows, races, a tractor pull and much more. There are special activities just for kids, and grandstand entertainment for everyone’s enjoyment.

Golfing

Try for that elusive hole-in-one at any of the four golf courses in the Prince Albert area:

  1. Cooke Municipal Golf Course, an 18-hole public course in Prince Albert on 22nd Street East, has a rich history dating back to 1909, and recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation.
  2. Fairview Fairways, a 9-hole public course located just two kilometres southeast of Prince Albert on Highway #3, offers picturesque views and a “variety of experiences” during play.
  3. Kachur’s Golf Club, an 18-hole members-only course located 10 minutes from Prince Albert off of SK-55, boasts long fairways, challenging water hazards, and scenic views.
  4. Marks Nine Golf & Country Club, a 9-hole private course, is a 5-minute drive from Prince Albert and is known for its well-manicured greens and ease-of-play.

Prince Albert Farmers Market

What better way to spend the morning than to visit a spectrum of creative local vendors offering their goods and services to the local community? Besides the freshest fruits and vegetables, you’ll also find home-baked goods, and snacks galore. The Prince Albert Farmers Market is open every Saturday during the summer months between 8 AM and 1 PM. Go while you’re hungry so you can enjoy all the delicious samples.

Walking Downtown Food & Historical Tour

For $20 per person, you can take a walking tour in downtown Prince Albert to learn about our city’s history. Included in the price are a sampling of snacks from local restaurants and a transferable one-day pass to all four Prince Albert museums.

Summer is one of our favorite seasons. We love the sun, fun, and everything that comes along with these mid-year months. With that being said, we have a quick question: do you decorate for the season? When it’s holiday time, many people put up a tree or display some decorative items; why not do the same for summer? To give your home an easy-breezy vibe, consider some of these summer decor trends.
  • Natural Accents – What’s the best thing about summer? For us, it’s longer days, warm nights, and the chance to truly get out and experience nature. One of the best ways to make your apartment summer ready is to include some natural accents. By bringing in nature, you can incorporate the best part of summer into your home decor. It’s easy to add some natural accents to your apartment. Wood furniture is one, plants are another. Even by bringing in one succulent, you can add a bit of summer into your home.
  • White Wood – One of the easiest ways to make your apartment feel like summer is with white wood. Whether it's investing in a few decorative items or a new piece of furniture, white wood can bring a beachy, summery vibe to your home. It’s not expensive to invest in some white wood furniture, just hit up your local flea market or antique mall. If that’s not an option, IKEA carries white wood furniture. Also, white furniture can brighten up your space for months to come.
  • Splash of Color – On the flip side, do you have too much white in your apartment? Sometimes white walls, furniture, and other accents can make your home feel a little like an asylum. To bring in a bright summer mood, consider a splash of color! A splash of color can come from a bright throw blanket, throw pillows, or a new art print. Bold colors can add new life to an old apartment.
  • Macramé – The 70s are coming back in style, and we’re not just talking about clothing. Some 70s decor trends are hot this summer. For example, macramé. If you don’t know what macramé is, it’s a decorative textile weaving technique made from knots. The knots can be formed to make wall hangings, cushion covers, planters, and almost anything else. This decor is often made with white or neutral colored cord and can make almost any home feel like a beach bungalow.
  • Sustainability – Sustainability is more than a hot buzzword, it’s a way of life. As more people are aware of the challenges facing our planet, the sustainability movement is catching on. One of the ways you can bring this trend into your home is with used furniture, upcycling projects, antiques, and locally made furniture. If you want to bring sustainability into your home without a hefty price tag, try some DIY projects. Keep an eye out for our next blog about DIY projects where we’ll share some of our favorite ways to repurpose furniture, materials, or most other things you have around the home.

There’s a very special group of people living in an apartment community in Abilene, TX. “They all know each other, help each other, and care about each other,” said Janet Dawkins, Community Director of Lexington Court Apartment Homes, about her residents when asked what makes her place unique.

Dawkins is a fan of author Peter Kageyama’s “For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places”, particularly his ideas concerning creating
Love Notes which are “small, hyper-local and fun interventions” for the health and progress of a community. She wanted to find ways to adopt the concept of creating Love Notes for the residents in her apartment community to foster a sense of pride and belonging in the people who live there, and so far, she’s been amazed at the results.

“It’s a small community, and I think that’s why this experiment has been so successful,” said Dawkins when asked about the results so far. “The sense of loving and caring about each other has spread like wildfire and keeps growing here,” she said.

Here are some ways Dawkins has created Love Notes for her residents:

It’s the little things that matter

“I just try to listen sometimes, and pay attention to what people are talking about,” said Dawkins when asked how she thinks of ways to share the love with her residents. If it’s good news or challenging news, she said she tries to “share a kind word, or even a card with well-wishes sometimes – just something to keep their spirits up and let them know we care.” Since it’s a pet-friendly community, she also keeps dog treats in office to share with her residents’ furry family members.

If you build it, they will come

Dawkins noticed that some of her residents tended to congregate around the mailbox area, chatting as they waited for the postal carrier. “I thought it would be nice if they had someplace to sit while they’re talking,” so she had her maintenance crew build benches where “residents can relax in the shade as they hang out and chat,” she said.

Resident activities

“Having an involved and active community is a sign that you’re doing your job right,” said Dawkins. She likes to keep things hopping for her residents, and she’s found that they are “ready to play”. A few of the many resident functions she’s hosted so far include:

  • Scavenger hunts – This spring, she hid Easter eggs around the property that contained clues to win the grand prize
  • Window bingo – The residents have a bingo card, she posts a letter/number combo in the office window daily, and “Bingo!” someone wins the prize when they fill in that magic row.
  • Group socials – Many members of the community gather together in the clubroom for fun times, mostly centering around food themes like ice cream day, or a Texas favorite, Frito Pie day, where residents belly up to the taco bar and create their own Frito Pie extravaganzas. “It just makes my day to look around and see people eating, talking, laughing together… it’s what makes my job so enjoyable,” said Dawkins.

Group outings

She also recognized that people tend to have fun in numbers, and, since they often like to go out together to enjoy the shopping, dining and green spaces surrounding the property, she helps to facilitate the outings from their prime location whenever possible:

  • Grover Nelson Park is within walking distance of their Abilene apartment community, where they can enjoy walking, kayaking, and swimming surrounded by scenic views.
  • Abilene Zoo and Botanical Park, with more than 1,000 animals, beautiful gardens, a lake and park, is also just down the route for her residents.
  • Rose’s Mexican Restaurant and the Lytle Lake Steakhouse are just two of the dining options to choose from to celebrate special occasions or just enjoy a simple meal together.

Anchorage, a contemporary urban community surrounded by awe-inspiring wilderness, is Alaska’s largest city. It’s a relatively young city, and it’s flourishing, boasting high-end art galleries, exquisite shopping and award-winning restaurants at its core, with spectacular unspoiled wilderness just outside the city limits.

Despite the large size and population of the city, Anchorage can feel like a much smaller town. During the long summer days, locals soak up the sun while they walk, bike and ride, enjoy outdoor festivals and concerts, and picnic in the parks. When winter comes, they bundle up and embrace the cold – skiing, snowboarding, skating and snow machining their way through the chilly months.

There’s so much to do in Anchorage – from exploring museums and learning about native culture, to hiking and reveling in the natural wonders that surround you – you’ll never run out of adventures.

Here are 18 awesome things to do in the Anchorage area:
  1. ATV excursions – Venture into Alaska's backcountry as you ride ATVs and view spectacular glaciers, mountains, scenery and wildlife.
  2. Biking – Enjoy the scenery during a relaxing ride along paved coastal trails, tear it up on a rugged mountain bike path, or join a guided tour that ends in a visit to a local brewery.
  3. Breweries – Or you can skip the bike ride and go straight to the source to explore Anchorage’s thriving craft beer scene.
  4. Day cruises – Take to the water to gain a unique vantage point into Alaska's natural beauty and wildlife, from massive tidewater glaciers and sloping beaches to whales, orcas, sea otters, and more.
  5. Dining – In Alaska, fresh seafood is a highlight on any menu – from shrimp, crab, salmon, halibut, and mussels – it’s sourced from some of the most pristine waters on the planet. And, from homestyle to elegant restaurants, you’ll find delicious menu choices to please every palate.
  6. Events and festivals – Anchorage hosts several iconic events, from festivals and concerts to marathons, sled races and more. Especially popular is the Anchorage July 4th Celebration, a day-long event on the Delaney Park Strip.
  7. Fishing Charters – Fly to stay in a remote lodge and partake in world-class fishing in pristine Alaskan waters.
  8. Flightseeing – Soar in a plane to witness some of the wildest, most stunning areas of Alaska, including Denali, the glaciers of Prince William Sound, and Kenai Fjords National Park.
  9. Glacier Tours – Whether by air, boat, snowmachine, or on foot, don’t miss seeing Alaska’s spectacular glaciers.
  10. Hiking trails – Stay in Anchorage for some great hiking, biking, and walking trails. Just outside the city limits, immerse yourself in nature by choosing from a huge variety of trail systems, from short and easy to long and strenuous. Or hire a local guide to share their knowledge of the local landscape and wildlife.
  11. Historic/cultural sites – Anchorage has a fascinating history, from its diverse Native cultures, to the Gold Rush and early development. Visit cultural centers around Anchorage, and visit historic sites to learn more about our unique city.
  12. Museums – Another great way to appreciate our city’s history? Visit museums to discover the stories of Alaska’s First People, art exhibits, our aviation history, and to participate in interactive displays.
  13. Panning for gold – Get your hands dirty as you pan for gold nuggets or flakes like a prospector, and learn firsthand about the history of the Gold Rush in our region.
  14. Performances and plays – Anchorage has several year-round theaters where you can catch award-winning productions, comedy shows, and concerts.
  15. Shopping – There are plenty of malls where you can shop for your favorite brands, as well as local shops, boutiques and markets that sell unique gifts and handcrafted souvenirs.
  16. Photography – Anchorage abounds with photo ops, from bustling farmers markets to quiet wildlife shots and everything in between. If you want to improve your skills and explore incredible destinations, join a tour with a focus on teaching photography skills.
  17. Whitewater rafting – Planning a rafting trip? Pick the right style for you: choose a whitewater adventure or a scenic float trip – either is a great way to immerse yourself in the gorgeous Alaska wilderness in a memorable way.
  18. Wildlife viewing spots – Select a guide to take you to the best birding spots, moose habitats, salmon spawning sites and bear hangouts.
