Congratulations! You’ve found the apartment that checks all your boxes: it’s in the right location, offers the amenities you love, and promises a comfortable environment.
Now that you’ve settled on your new home, it’s time to focus on the rental agreement. Signing your lease secures your rental rate and outlines all the essentials for your stay.
To help you feel confident in this process, here’s a step-by-step guide to understanding your lease agreement, complete with key lease definitions every new renter should know. You'll also find important red flags to watch for, so you can move forward with peace of mind.
Step 1: Understand what a lease agreement is
A lease agreement is a binding legal contract between you (the tenant) and the landlord or property management company. This document spells out the terms, conditions, responsibilities, and rights of both parties during your stay. Your lease will specify the length of your rental period, the amount of rent, security deposits, maintenance policies, and any specific rules or regulations for the community.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- Vague or missing information about your rights and the landlord’s obligations.
- Unusual clauses that waive your legal rights or limit your ability to report issues.
- Blank spaces or incomplete sections within the agreement.
Step 2: Read the entire lease document thoroughly
Carefully review every section of your lease agreement before signing. Look for these important details:
- Lease term: The length of your commitment (e.g., 12 months, month-to-month).
- Rent amount: Monthly payment, due date, and payment method.
- Security deposit: A refundable amount held against damages, along with conditions for return.
- Unit address: The specific apartment you’ll be living in.
- Utility responsibilities: Which utilities you’ll pay for and what’s covered by management.
- Contact information: Names and direct lines for your leasing office and maintenance team.
Many communities, like Solara Apartment Homes, offer secure online resident portals. These allow you to pay rent, request maintenance, and access community updates with ease at any time.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- Hidden fees or unclear language about additional charges.
- Inconsistent information (such as a different rent amount on different pages).
- Rules or fees that weren’t discussed with you previously.
Step 3: Clarify your utility responsibilities
Examine the section on utilities. In most apartment communities, residents handle their own water, electricity, and other utility bills, though some leases include certain utilities in the rent. Double-check this section to ensure you’re clear on which utility accounts you need to set up.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- You’re being asked to pay for utilities that are unusually high or unclear in scope.
- Utility responsibilities are not clearly assigned between the resident and management.
- No explanation for how utility costs are calculated or billed.
Step 4: Review the pet policy
If you have pets or plan to adopt one, check your community’s policies carefully. Confirm whether pets are allowed, if there are breed or size restrictions, and what additional costs might apply, such as:
- Pet deposit: A refundable sum for potential damages caused by pets.
- Pet rent: A fixed monthly fee for having a pet in your apartment.
- Pet amenities: Features such as pet stations or pet parks on the property.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- “No-pet” policies are undisclosed during your initial tour or discussion.
- Excessive or non-refundable pet deposits and unclear breed or weight restrictions.
- Vague rules about the consequences for violating the pet policy.
Step 5: Go over “what-if” scenarios
First, take a moment to review the sublet policy! Many property management companies do not permit subleasing, which is when a current resident rents out their apartment or a room to someone not on the original lease. This arrangement can cause headaches if the subtenant fails to pay rent or comply with community guidelines. Always double-check whether subletting is allowed at your property and understand what’s required.
Next, find out what steps are needed if you need to end your lease—whether you’re planning not to renew or need to break your lease in an urgent situation. Knowing the process ahead of time will save stress later.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- Vague or unclear policies regarding subleasing or lease terminations
- Surprise fees for subletting or ending your lease early that aren’t listed in writing
- Penalties for subleasing or breaking your lease without clear, transparent guidelines
- Lease agreements that do not specify notice periods or requirements for ending your lease
- Restrictions or conditions for ending your lease that are not clearly defined
- Staying informed about all leasing policies helps ensure a smooth and positive experience throughout your stay!
Step 6: Request and retain copies of your lease
Always collect signed copies of any paperwork, including your full lease agreement and addenda. If you complete these steps online, ask the leasing consultant to provide downloadable files for your records. Keeping these documents handy helps answer questions and protect your rights throughout your residency.
Red Flags to Look Out For:
- Not receiving a completed, signed copy of your lease and any addenda.
- Pressure to sign paperwork without sufficient time to review.
- Changes or additions to agreement terms after you’ve already signed.

]]>The post Stay Warm in Anchorage, Alaska: A Guide to Long Winters appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>
If you’re moving to Anchorage, Alaska, you might be wondering how to handle the winter, especially if chilly weather isn’t your norm! Alaskan winters bring daily high temperatures below 32°F and typically span from November through March or April, with snow often lasting until mid-April. Staying warm and comfortable during these months is key. Let’s explore some smart ways to keep cozy all winter long in Anchorage!
Wear Appropriate Clothing
Layering your clothing is the ultimate secret to staying warm in Alaska’s weather. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer — something like merino wool or high-performance synthetic fabrics — to help you stay dry. Then, add an insulating layer of fleece, sweaters, or vests to help trap body heat. Top it all off with a protective outer layer, such as a waterproof jacket and sturdy boots, to shield you from wind and snow. Don’t forget winter essentials such as wool socks, a warm hat, and insulated gloves.
Remember to avoid cotton, since it holds moisture and can actually make you feel colder. Stick to materials like merino wool and polyester that dry quickly and keep you comfortable.
Get Moving
Staying active is a fantastic way to keep warm, boost your mood, and make the most of the beautiful Anchorage winter! The city and nearby areas are home to a variety of fun, invigorating activities:
- Flattop Mountain: Considered the “quintessential day hike,” Flattop Mountain in Chugach State Park is Anchorage’s most climbed peak. Trails suit all experience levels, but the most popular route is a 1.5-mile hike with a satisfying 1,280-foot elevation gain and unforgettable views.
- Tony Knowles Coastal Trail: Stretching 11 miles, this scenic biking and hiking trail offers incredible panoramas of downtown Anchorage, the Chugach Mountains, Denali, and Fire Island. Keep your eyes peeled for moose and other local wildlife along the way!
- Ice Fishing: Anchorage is surrounded by excellent ice fishing spots, including Jewel Lake, Delong Lake, Sand Lake, and Cheney Lake. Here, you might catch landlocked salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, and grayling. Always ensure the ice is at least 5 inches thick before venturing out, and bring along ice picks and a rope for safety.
- Alyeska Resort: Head to Alyeska Resort, home to Olympic gold medalist Tommy Moe and more than 1,400 skiable acres of land! Beginners will love the Hilltop Ski Area, which features 30 acres of gentle, groomed trails and meandering slopes just right for learning.
Try a Happy Light
With Anchorage’s winter days sometimes limited to just five hours of daylight, a Happy Light can be a game changer. These lightweight, tablet-style lamps are designed to mimic natural sunlight and help counteract the effects of light deprivation. They’re an excellent tool for maintaining energy and balancing your circadian rhythms during the darker months!
Make Sure to Get Your Vitamin D
Less sunlight in winter means your body makes less vitamin D, so it’s essential to get this nutrient another way. A great way to do this is to add more vitamin D-rich foods to your diet, primarily through oily fish like salmon, mackerel, and herring, or seafood such as oysters, shrimp, and flounder. Certain foods, like milk, orange juice, and cereal, may also be fortified with vitamin D (check the label to be sure). Vitamin D3 supplements are also widely available in pharmacies and grocery stores if you need an extra boost.

]]>The post Tips for a Fantastic Staycation for You and Your Valentine appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>No matter who you spend the day with (or if you celebrate by treating yourself!) consider taking this weekend to relax and get away without even leaving your home. Planning a staycation can be the incredible break from your day-to-day stressors that you have been dreaming of. Not to mention, it is the most inexpensive way to vacation!
Check out all of our best tips for having an incredible staycation this Valentine’s Day weekend!

Get all of your chores done now
You don’t vacuum, do laundry, or dust when you go away, so don’t do it on your staycation. Get through all of your mundane tasks now, so you can enjoy your home as if it is your fabulous resort for the weekend. Wash all of your bathroom towels and bedding, and consider folding your towels into fancy shapes or using lavender spray on your bedding. You will also want to wash all of your dishes and put them away, and set out all of your favorite candles to get your home smelling great!
Shop for all of your favorite treats and snacks
Once you have your home prepped for your staycation, take a trip to the store to get your favorite treats and snacks to enjoy. You could lean into the holiday and get chocolates, strawberries, and other sweets. Or you could find the ingredients to your favorite meals, so you can cook some really great food during your weekend “away.” You can also use this trip to grab some luxurious details for your weekend, like little mints to leave on your pillows, citrus fruits to make refreshing infused water, and a bath bomb or eucalyptus to enhance your baths or showers!
Invite a loved one to join in on your “trip”
If you live alone, invite your best friend or a family member to spend the weekend with you. Think of it as a weekend-long slumber party, and prepare your guest bedroom with extra pillows, mints, and towels. You can also get your loved one’s favorite treats and snacks while you are picking up your own. You can spend the evening together cooking, or even get dinner at a great local restaurant. If a solo staycation isn’t your thing, then modify it, so you can enjoy your special weekend with someone you love!
Plan your activities
Your staycation can be whatever you want it to be, so you can stay inside all weekend and watch your favorite shows and movies if that is what you want. Or, you can visit that local museum that you can never make the time to check out. If the weather is nice, consider going to a local park, packing a picnic, and spending the day in the sun.
If you are spending the weekend with a loved one, you can plan an at-home spa day: wear fluffy bathrobes, apply face masks, and sip cucumber water while listening to relaxing music. Whatever you already love to do together can also be the agenda for the weekend. It is totally up to you to decide how to spend your staycation, but give it some thought ahead of time. You don’t want to miss out on any fun because you didn’t prepare!
Decorate Your Home for the Holiday
Buy or craft some fun Valentine’s Day decor to decorate your home for the weekend. You could paint flowers or hearts on tapered candles, blow up some heart-shaped balloons, or get a bouquet of flowers. If you don’t like the aesthetic that is associated with Valentine’s Day, then you can lean into your own color and design preferences!
Take advantage of your apartment amenities
If your apartment home community offers awesome amenities, then go enjoy them on your weekend “away.” It is so easy to take community amenities for granted and not make the time to enjoy them on a week-to-week basis. So, take a dip in the pool, take some time to release your stress at the gym, shoot some hoops at the basketball court, or relax at the spa this weekend!
Valentine’s Day can be a very expensive holiday, but it doesn’t have to be. Spending the weekend at home, but treating it like a weekend away, can be a great way to connect with yourself and your community. So take some time and figure out how you would best enjoy the weekend!

]]>The post Preparing for Thanksgiving appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>There can be a lot of pressure on the host of a major holiday to make the day perfect. From the food to the decor to the company, there are so many factors to consider when preparing yourself, your family, and your home for Thanksgiving. The key is to create a balance where you ensure you can get everything done that you need to without sacrificing your own enjoyment of the day. After all, this is supposed to be a fun day spent with loved ones!
No matter how many people you are hosting, you are sure to love these tips to prepare for the holiday!

Create a plan
If you are hosting this year, you definitely want to plan ahead a cleaning schedule for your family, a timetable for what needs to be cooked and when, and a list of other various factors to consider for the day. This is a great opportunity to really assess what you need to do, what you want to do, and what you should not do.
Having a plan will also limit (if not eliminate) the possibility of a last-minute disaster. When hosting an event of any size, it is always best to over-prepare!
Figure out who is attending
Before you start cooking and setting the table, you will want to get a headcount for the exact number of guests that you will be hosting this Thanksgiving. Having an exact number will give you the opportunity to figure out exactly how much food you need to make, which foods you should not make to accommodate any food allergies, and how many chairs you need to gather.
You can also create a seating chart if you want to make sure that the children have their own table or if you just want to use cute place cards!
Create a timetable of what needs to be cooked and when
Because some dishes take longer to cook than others, some need to be cooked at drastically different temperatures than others, and some take up more space in the oven, you will definitely want to create a timetable of what you need to cook and when you should cook it.
You might realize that you need to cook a few dishes the night before, or you might decide to prepare your ingredients to make sure everything runs smoothly the day of.
Delegate
If you are hosting this year, do not pressure yourself into doing everything for everyone. Ask your family and other guests to help too. This could mean asking your sibling to bring a dish, your kids to clean up their toys and games, or your spouse to help you come up with a game plan of who is taking on which responsibilities.
Not only will this make the day more manageable, but it also gives you the opportunity to really enjoy yourself!
Prepare for leftovers
This step can be an easy one to overlook when preparing for the meal itself. You will either want to make sure you inform your guests to bring their own food storage containers for leftovers or supply them yourself. This way, you won’t have to give out your favorite containers and hope to get them back.
You will also want to prepare your refrigerator for leftovers. Make sure to throw out anything that has gone bad, freeze what you can, and condense everything else. You are going to be so glad that you did this ahead of time!
Maybe you aren’t hosting this year, but it will be your turn next year, and you’re planning ahead. If that’s the case, and you are realizing that your kitchen might not be up to the challenge of preparing the holiday meal, check out La Bella Vita Apartment Homes. Not only will you host Thanksgiving with ease, but you’ll want to host all the time!
La Bella Vita is an incredible, active community in the Briargate neighborhood of Colorado Springs, CO. Our amenities are as luxurious as they are convenient, and our modern floor plans are exactly what you have been looking for. Our friendly leasing team would love to offer you a tour or provide more information about our community; contact us today to schedule a tour of your future home!

]]>The post Easy Ways to Improve Your Cooking Skills appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>No matter what your cooking goals are, you could probably benefit from some tips and tricks on how to improve your skills in the kitchen. These tips are beginner-friendly, but we are sure that more experienced cooks will also appreciate these reminders!
Here are 5 ways that you can improve your skills in the kitchen!

Sharpen your knives
Did you know that dull knives are more dangerous than sharp ones?
When your knives are not properly sharpened, you use more force, which can lead to more serious injuries if your hand slips. If you really want to improve your chopping skills in a safe, professional way, then invest in a knife sharpener to keep all of your tools in tip-top shape. You will be amazed at how much quicker you are able to prep your vegetables once your knives are up to par. You may even find yourself enjoying prep work more!
Implement mise en place
Mise en place is the practice of measuring and prepping all of your ingredients prior to cooking. This is especially handy when you are following a more complicated recipe, or if you are really tired. You won’t forget to add all of your spices, and you won’t be rushing around to find an ingredient at the last second. This means that you are also eliminating any potential chaos that may ensue from said rushing.
This method can lead to extra dishes, but overall it is a really great, organized way to approach cooking.
Clean as you go
How do you combat the extra dishes that accumulate from implementing mise en place?
Clean as you go! This is a great way to minimize your post-cooking cleanup. It also keeps you in the kitchen while everything is cooking, rather than walking off, getting distracted, and potentially overcooking your dish. You will definitely be grateful at the end of your meal when all you have to do is load your plates and utensils into the dishwasher and call it a night!
If you really don’t like cleaning as you cook, consider trying out some one-pan meals to limit your dishes in another way!
Use a kitchen scale when you bake
Do you have trouble with your baking recipes not turning out exactly the way they are meant to?
Try using a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients, rather than a measuring cup. Using a scale will ensure that all of your measurements are precise, which might just be your problem. You might even find that you prefer this method of measuring over the traditional cup method. The best part is that kitchen scales do not have to be a big investment, so your baked goods will be perfect and you won’t break the bank!
Follow cooking guides online
There are thousands of cooking tutorials, lessons, and guides online. If you dedicate a few meals a week to following the teachings of other cooks and bakers, you might be surprised at how much your own skills have improved. Consider starting with basic videos like how to chop vegetables in a uniform way, and work your way up to more advanced skills and recipes. This way you won’t overwhelm yourself or lose interest from starting beyond your current skill level.
We hope you all benefit from these tips and continue to enjoy your time in the kitchen. Whether you like to cook or bake, you will definitely benefit from these tips if you are not already implementing them into your cooking routine!

]]>The post Last-Minute Halloween Fun appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>It can be difficult to juggle your daily responsibilities AND find time for seasonal holiday fun. If you found yourself putting off Halloween crafts, activities, and recipes in order to get all of your other tasks accomplished, then take some time tonight to do something fun!
Here are our favorite last minute crafts, snacks, and activities for some Halloween fun!
Carve Pumpkins
The night before Halloween may seem too late to carve pumpkins, but just think about how fresh they will look tomorrow night on your porch. If you don’t like scooping out the insides of the pumpkin, try painting them. You could also paint or carve autumnal designs into them, so you can keep them out past Halloween. Pumpkin carving may be a more traditional activity for Halloween, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t turn it into a fall activity!
Paint Leaves or Rocks
Do you or your kids want to make some ghost crafts without wasting money?
Gather some nice fallen leaves or rocks and paint them! To make ghosts, paint them white and add scary or frightened faces. You could also use this approach to make other monsters, ghouls, or characters. When you don’t want to spend money on a last-minute craft, always look around you to see what you already have to work with!
Make Paper Spider Webs
You have probably heard of, if not made, paper snowflakes before, but have you ever made paper spider webs?
This is another easy craft with materials you almost definitely have on hand. Just grab a stack of paper in the color of your choosing and follow the design to make your very own paper spider webs. Your whole family can work on this while watching your favorite scary (or not so scary) movies.
Making a pompom spider is not necessarily essential, but it will definitely be extra cute if you choose to make them!
Halloween Pancakes
Whether you make these in the morning or for dinner, you are going to LOVE these spooky-themed pancakes!
Add your favorite pancake batter to a squeeze bottle and use it to make any Halloween-related shapes you want. Try your hand at some spiderwebs, leaves, pumpkins, or ghosts. If you are feeling particularly artistic, try making more complex monsters or characters. Top them with your favorite pancake toppings and enjoy!
Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins
Now these are a super easy, super fun Halloween treat. Just a traditional Rice Krispie treat recipe can soon become adorable pumpkin treats with the help of some food dye, a Rolo candy, and a green M&M or Skittle!
These only take about 20 minutes to make, and your friends and family are certain to LOVE them!
Worms in Dirt Pudding
Now, this is a classic Halloween dessert that your family will love. Dish chocolate pudding into individual bowls and top with crushed Oreos and gummy worms to make a spooky treat for your friends, family, or coworkers!
Movie Marathon
A last minute Halloween night does not have to be complicated. Make a list of your favorite autumn, scary, or family-friendly Halloween movies and watch as many as you can. Try making one of the snacks above, some popcorn, or hot apple cider before you watch and make some of the crafts while you watch!
A movie marathon may be simple, but it can also be the start to a really great family tradition!
We hope you enjoy these ideas and have a great night making snacks, watching movies, crafting, or whatever else you might decide to do. Halloween fun does not have to be a priority every day of October, but it is fun to have a little bit of time dedicated to getting into the holiday spirit!
We hope everyone has a fantastic, safe Halloween that is full of tricks, treats, and lots of fun!

]]>The post Decluttering Your Closet appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>When was the last time you took a good look at your closet?
Setting aside some time to sort through those shoes you’ve long forgotten about, the clothes that have seen better days, and any random items that have accumulated can really make a difference in your daily life.
Plus, with a new season on the way, it’s the perfect opportunity to evaluate your habits and pinpoint areas for improvement. Instead of tackling everything at once, it's best to take it slow and handle it in manageable steps.
Here are 5 fantastic tips to help you declutter your closet like an expert!

1. Before you start, grab a donation box and trash bag!
As you dive into your closet, you're bound to find clothing you no longer wear. If they're still in decent shape, why not donate them to a local shelter or thrift store? Anything that’s a little worse for wear might be better off in the trash. You can also get creative and turn some old clothes into cleaning rags or use them for craft projects!
Having a donation box and trash bag close by will encourage you to use them, and it’ll save you from stepping over piles of clothes on the floor!
2. Take everything out of your closet first
For a complete declutter, you’ll want to pull everything out. Going through your stuff without taking it out can lead to half-hearted efforts. By taking the time to inspect everything, you’ll get a clearer picture of what you really want to hold on to, as some items may not catch your eye enough to make it to the donation bin.
Choose the organization system that works best for you. When you’re done, you’ll likely notice how much time you save when getting dressed next time!
3. Be thoughtful about where you put the items you’re keeping
Once you know what you’re keeping, think about how you want to organize those items. Maybe you prefer to sort by type — like t-shirts, pants, and dresses — or perhaps you want to create a visually pleasing setup and sort by color.
4. Make the most of your space
If you own lots of clothes but don’t have a huge closet, consider placing a dresser inside under your hanging clothes. If it fits, this will help save space!
If your closet has shelves, use them for shoes, accessories, or baskets filled with socks and other smaller items. If shelves are absent, look into getting hanging organizers to maximize storage. You’ll be amazed at the difference a little extra organization can make!
5. Vacuum-seal your off-season clothes
We all have winter items like chunky sweaters and gloves that aren't used all year round. A smart way to keep your closet neat is to vacuum-seal these seasonal clothes, so they’re out of the way until you need them again. This way, you’ll avoid losing track of your favorite fall or winter pieces during those warmer months!
6. Keep it tidy!
Now that your closet is all cleaned up and organized, the key is to maintain it. Try doing a quick weekly check for any misplaced items and hanging them up. This will make it much easier to keep everything in order without having to do a massive overhaul every time!
We hope these tips help you just as much as they have helped us!
We hope that your newly organized closet makes your daily routine smoother. And remember, if your closet starts filling up again with clothes you don’t wear or if it’s no longer functional, feel free to revisit this guide and refresh your space!

]]>The post How to Keep Your Home Free of Pet Odors appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>Pets can be a wonderful part of the family, but they also demand a significant amount of responsibility. Between buying pet food, searching for sitters, and finding trainers, there's a lot of work to do.
Regardless of how much you adore your furry friends, their smell may not be as endearing. There’s nothing more disheartening than lying down to unwind on the couch, only to encounter the aroma of your dog. Likewise, it’s not enjoyable to settle down for a movie only to discover your favorite blanket is covered in cat fur.
So, what’s the answer?
Continue reading to find out how to keep your living space smelling fresh and free of pet odors!
Clean Up Accidents Thoroughly and Quickly
Even the best-behaved pets can occasionally have accidents. The key to avoiding permanent stains or odors is prompt action. Be sure to clean up the entire mess and apply an effective stain and odor neutralizer afterward. If you prefer natural alternatives, look for a product that contains baking soda.
Regular Grooming and Bathing
Consistent grooming and bathing can significantly help manage odors.
While most cat breeds don’t need frequent baths – you should only bathe them when your veterinarian recommends it – brushing your cats regularly can help minimize shedding around your home. This can also reduce the chances of hairballs, addressing two types of messes at once!
Most dog breeds can handle regular baths, so consider adding this to your routine. Brushing your dog frequently will also decrease the amount of hair you find throughout your space. If your dog sheds excessively, consult your groomer for effective solutions.
Make sure to give them a treat and pat them on the head for their patience after you're done!
Dusting and Vacuuming Often
Pet hair left throughout the house is a major cause of lingering odors. Regular dusting and vacuuming will help keep this hair under control. Additionally, you’ll find that you rely less on lint rollers and similar products to keep your clothes and furniture hair-free.
For carpets or rugs, consider using a device to rake the hair out of the fabric, allowing you to collect much more than you’d achieve with vacuuming alone!
Wash Your Fabrics Routinely
Want to keep your decorative fabrics – like pillows and blankets, or even clothes – from smelling like your pets? Make sure to wash them frequently. In between washes, you can use a freshening spray to ensure they continue smelling great.
It’s easy to forget to clean your dog bed or cat bed, but it can trap a lot of odors. If your pet’s bed has a non-removable cover and is too large for your home machines, consider taking it to a laundromat or soaking it in your bathtub!
Air Purifier
Even after thorough cleaning, there may still be residual odors from pet dander. Purchasing an air purifier can significantly improve your home's air quality. Plus, it’s an excellent way to reduce allergens, making it a more comfortable space for guests who might be allergic to pets.
Make Use of a Beautiful Day and Open Your Windows
Sometimes the simplest solutions can make a BIG difference. If you find yourself at home on a pleasant day, consider opening your windows to let fresh air flush out your pet’s odors. Alternatively, you can do this overnight once things have calmed down for the evening!
With these tips, your house will be fresh and free of pet odors in no time!

]]>The post 5 Reasons the Perfect Time to Deep Clean Your Home is Now appeared first on Weidner Apartment Homes Blog.
]]>Here are 5 reasons to give your home a deep clean now!
Simplify your holiday cleaning
If you plan on hosting any holidays or holiday parties at your place this year, you will have a lot less work to do if you deep clean your home now. Just doing your routine weekly cleaning the week of an event is much less stressful than having to remember all the details that deep cleaning might entail. You will also be able to enjoy the time you spend with your friends and family more!
Free up your time to do seasonal activities
Don’t wait until all the fun seasonal activities like fall festivals, apple picking, and hay rides begin to take a day to clean. Work ahead so you don’t miss out on all the great events that will occur over the next few months. This way, you won’t have to miss out on great plans with your friends because you are behind on your chores!
Decorating will be easier
Do you like decorating for Halloween, or do you tend to set out autumnal or harvest decor?
Either way, you will benefit from doing a deep clean now. This way, you can just have fun decorating your home without the hard, tiring work. It is so nice to decorate for a new season with a scented candle lit and a favorite movie or ambient music playing, and cleaning will take away from the great experience!
It’s (hopefully) not too hot or cold
As summer ends and the weather begins to cool a bit, you don’t have to worry about getting overheated while working hard, and you don’t have to bundle up before going outside to take out the trash, sweep your patio or balcony, or clean the exterior side of your windows. Not to mention, it won’t make your home too hot to turn off the air conditioning and open your windows while you clean. This will allow fresh air to flow through your home and make your space feel more refreshed. If it’s still really warm where you are, consider trying this overnight when the temperature is lower!
You can identify any maintenance issues before winter
As you clean, take note of any maintenance issues inside or outside your home. You will have plenty of time to schedule repairs before the holidays, cold weather, etc. This way, your home will be clean and fully functioning through the next season. ]]>This is going to be such an exciting experience for you, and we hope that you love living in your new home. Whether you are moving into your first apartment by yourself or with roommates, we have some great recommendations for you. There are plenty of items that you will want to make sure are in your new apartment, some for comfort, some for safety, and some for fun!
Here are 5 things that you will definitely want in your new home!
Fire Extinguisher
The requirement of apartment communities to supply fire extinguishers for their residents varies from state to state. If your apartment home does not include a fire extinguisher, then you should put it at the top of your list to get one. Not only will it come in handy in the event of a fire, but you will also have the peace of mind that accompanies having a plan for such emergencies. You will want to base the number of fire extinguishers for your home based on the size of it, but definitely keep one in the kitchen!

Toolbox
Having tools handy during your move can be a lifesaver if you run into any issues with getting your furniture through doorways, notice missing screws, or if you need to measure a room before setting it up. Be sure to keep some emergency essentials in your toolkit, like extra batteries, flashlights, matches, and candles. This way you will be prepared for any power outages, and the extra batteries might save you a last-minute trip to the store when your TV remote needs new ones. You will be so grateful for your tools during the entire moving process AND after you are all settled!
An Air Freshener With Your Favorite Scent
While this is not essential for your safety or convenience, it is essential for your comfort. By making your favorite aroma the signature scent of your new apartment, you will feel at home faster. If you don’t have a favorite fragrance, try simmering a pot of water with a spoonful of vanilla extract, some lemon slices, and fresh herbs like rosemary or lavender. This is a great recipe to create a pleasant, cozy environment. Not to mention, your home is going to smell great!
Photos of Your Friends and Loved Ones
Whether or not you have roommates in your new apartment, it is still encouraging to be surrounded by the smiling faces of those who love you. It’s always nice to have such meaningful photos framed, but, if you attach them to a bulletin board or strand of lights, you can swap them out for new ones at a later date. Pro-tip: unpack these items first, so your loved ones support you through the entire unpacking process!
Something Fun!
You should celebrate this next phase of your life by getting something fun for your new apartment. It does not have to be expensive or impractical if you are on a budget. If you love coffee, you could get a milk frother to make your favorite drink at home (and save money in the long run). You could also get a fun ice mold, an awesome poster or painting to hang, or some really cute throw pillows!
